Some type of download site? parabola 02-15-2002, 06:24 PM Originally posted by StephenRS 5.6TB a month. Is that PER server? Is it spread out, a constant stream, or are their peak and low periods? Some type of download site? No, 5.6TB total for the month. A large forum. Peaks and low periods. One server is a web server, the other is a DB server directly attached to the webserver. JBIZ718 02-15-2002, 06:27 PM Well it depends on the type of Bandwidth Your looking at about 19mbps 2 servers about $50 per U So if its 2 x 1u servers that 100 Cogent bandwidth 19mbps x $45 = $855 Your looking at about 955$ per month Joe cperciva 02-15-2002, 06:29 PM Originally posted by parabola No, 5.6TB total for the month. What is it, slashdot? parabola 02-15-2002, 06:45 PM Originally posted by JBIZ718 Well it depends on the type of Bandwidth Your looking at about 19mbps 2 servers about $50 per U So if its 2 x 1u servers that 100 Cogent bandwidth 19mbps x $45 = $855 Your looking at about 955$ per month Joe Thank you. :) I'd guess tower servers would be significantly more expensive. That is considering peak bursts and such? parabola 02-15-2002, 06:45 PM Originally posted by cperciva Woah. That's a *big* forum. What is it, slashdot? No, not that big. It is just a large private car enthusaist forum. :) energy 02-15-2002, 08:14 PM Originally posted by cperciva Guys... isn't this supposed to be a non-advertising forum? Aren't you losing money on it at this rate? It seems that on a line that is not more than 70% filled so as to allow burst room the cost is 3000/.7 = 4285 or 42.85 per meg raw cost that is going to cogent - and that does not include any router amortization - support engineering overhead or profit. Please tell us how you do it - not being disrespectful or smart allecky - just inquiring minds want to know - I would be quoting this at 145 per meg to cover everything. JBIZ718 02-15-2002, 08:54 PM Well I wont go into specifics but we arent loosing money at all. And 145 per mbps for cogent bandwidth is a but pricey. Joe jw 02-15-2002, 11:37 PM Do you have mod_gzip installed? It could reduce bandwidth usage very significantly for a forum. cbaker17 02-16-2002, 12:50 AM I thought you didnt like cogent joe (jbiz)? JBIZ718 02-16-2002, 02:18 PM I am not that big of a fan. But a few people in chicago needed really cheap bandwidth. So i got it for them. Joe |
