View Full Version : *Retraction* of former comments on WebExpose

Just to let everyone know that I'm retracting all my previous recommendations for WebExpose due to the new resellers program being instituted, as well as the recent downtime problems and ASP DLL overflows on their servers. I'm moving my stuff off their servers by the end of the week and will be switching to either T-B or CentralInfo.

Is it too late to announce it? :D, j/k.

Umm... just a comment though... since you're really good at support, and I find you guys know a lot about webhosting, can't you guys just join together and form one company that'll end all companies? I'd certainly be your first customer! Bwahahahaha! ;p

How important do you consider it for a web host to provide NT server availiblity? I had no idea that this many people really wanted NT hosting.........

There are a few people who need it. More then there ever were, after the introduction of ASP. But I guess, a couple of months down the line, once ASP for linux is stable enough and stuff, the want for NT will reduce, simply because, overall cost of maintaining and licensing for NT is very high. Plus, there are way tooooo many Holes and Bugs in the NT system. It is drastically flawed. I wouldnt recommend it to anyone.

Plonk,

Actually that was what Chicken and I were discussing a few nights ago - we could probably beat the competition hands down! LOL Seriously though, I just don't have the time yet...

Let's keep this thread on topic for now.

That seems to be the most important commodity these days... time... ;[ I'm juggling 2 jobs as webdesigner [might even get a third] and my girlfriend. Delicate balancing there, if you want to know.... I don't think I can hande the pressure anymore... ;[ ;p

I really do not prefer nt hosting... the price is not worth it.. .it's just that the only server side scripting language i know is cold fusion.... unless there's a unix version?

Me trying to learn PHP and MySQL now. ;] If I can pull it off, then maybe I could transfer to a unix hosting. ;] I hear that there's a lot of good hosts out there.... like where WHT is hosted on... I forget the name but I saw it somewhere in this board... ;]

FYI, WHT is currently hosted on Hosting Matters (http://www.hostingmatters.com) and have had no problems at all. Annette and Stephanie have been very helpful. That said, we're about to move off on to a different host in the next week for various reasons - will reveal who it is in the next week once the transfer is complete and any niggly problems are sorted out.

PHP/MySQL is a killer combo - it's worth learning it.

There *is* a Linux version available for ColdFusion 4.5 now, but very few hosts support it.

Unfortunately that's the problem. I don't know precisely which hosts have Linux/CF *grin*

As for the switch to the new host.... Welllllllllll you'll just have to wait. :)

I hate waiting, BC. It makes me have to go to the bathroom. Tell me now or... suffer the watery consequences.

This won't affect everyone but if you are using Cold Fusion and are on Webexpose, I got some bad news for ya. Im sure you know about the +.htr bug. Well for those who dont it lets anyone and every see your COld Fusion code even your application.cfm pages with your USERNAMES and PASSWORDS on your site.

I have emailed numerous times over the past month and a half to Webexpose to fix this problem. It is a simple little patch, all documented on Allaire yet they refuse to fix this or even ackowledge by emails or support tickets. I have moved my site off of their server. If you plan on keeping it either live, with people having your username and password for your SQL server or email them and you try and get them to change it. Hopefully they will see this message here and realize that more people know about it now.

If and when ASP for Linux is stabilized, all the bugs are worked out, etc., does that also imply that any databases that rely on VB to access them (Access for example) will also be able to be hosted on a Linux host as well? I know it's a strange question, but I really can't figure out the answer.

Na. You will not be able to run a Access Dbase of a Linux server.

BC

You would have to run/connect to your Access MDB through an ODBC connection.
