I am in the San Antonio ( TX ) area.

I need my newly built server to be setup for about 30 domains.

I am going this route: http://slackware.hostinghacks.net/

But I don't care to waste too much time so i was thinking I would
enlist some help.

I thought I have a good service provider bookmarked, but I guess not :(

I would greatly appreciate any leads and or comments to this end.

All my Best...

I would be willing to install and configure this software (with a couple modifications) for $100 USD. Though my personal preference is Debian, I am comfortable with Slackware as well. Follow the link in my sig for contact information :).

If you have specific questions about doing it yourself, feel free to ask more specifically.

Your offer is very reasonable.

but my box is completely empty of software, no OS of any kind,
and I don't want to just put it online because I have a 4 mgbt
connection and it would only be minutes until the box is compromised.

that is why I asked for someone in my own town.

I will keep your offer in mind.

Thank you.

the reason for the slackware is I was told it is most secure and stable, on top of that, I want it to include as much user friendly GUI as possible.

Some Distributions(CentOS 3 for example) allow the use of a VNC to install the distribution. You might want to look into that.

Slackware is not windows bro. you dont need to worry about that with slackware 10.

Download the iso, burn it to a cd, stick it in the drive and boot it up.

I advise looking to your local LUG to help out. I believe this is the website for your area: http://www.satlug.org/

I did that, no one answered my request - but thank you for the advise.

You really don't need to worry about remote roots until you start installing services. It's my understanding that Slackware only starts ssh by the default install, which has proven to be a very secure service. This isn't Windows (or RedHat) we're talking about here, you'll be fine plugging a virgin install of pretty much any recent distribution that comes with a small set of default services directly onto the internet.

Also, there's nothing inherent in Slackware that makes it any more secure than the rest, besides the fact that the administrator pretty much has to do everything from scratch which generally forces them to install the latest versions of everything etc. This is a major drawback too, though, as it takes much more administration time to keep the system up to date. I'm sure whatever distribution you choose, administered properly, will be secure.
