Hello,

I have been with surpass hosting for some time and everything was fine until a few months back. Many of my mails and those of my customers are getting lost, not bouncing. The sites are also down atleast once a month for a few hours, sometimes twice or thrice a month. Have faced DNS problems too.

I have requested support and also have got good quick responces, the problem gets fixed and reappears after some time.

I need to know exactly how much time have my sites been down in the past year particularly the uptime percentage so that I can take this matter to the surpass admins. Is there any tool or script that can help me find out the server uptime/downtime for the fast. If any of you know of it please let me know.

Thanks,

J. karim

after the fact there is little you can do. Your server logs may help but only some. Good luck and if the problems persist it may be time to change providers.

The only thing I can think of is a notepad and pencil. When it's down, mark the time of day, then mark again when it's back up....

You might want to ask them what the problem is too. Maybe you would think of something to give a better, longer fix for it. That, or tell them you wouldn't mind a few extra hours of downtime once, for them to gix it forever.

There are plenty of services that monitor this, I know http://www.alertra.com/ provides this service

You don't need "proof" with Surpass... all you need to do is ask for a refund and tell them why. Trust me, they know they have been having problems over the past 2 months -- they're not stupid. What amazes me is why people never ask for a refund. I am not saying to abuse the issue... but if you feel you are owed one, then by all means, it's your right to claim it. If your server sucks, then get off of it and request a transfer to a new server. I'd do both if I were you (refund and transfer) -- because that is what I did last week. I said "Enuff's enuff! Get my off this server!!" They also gave me a refund for the month. The process will likely take up to a week -- so don't expect a miracle to happen within 24 hours... but they will do it for you, mark my words. Surpass has their problems -- but one thing they always do is NEVER argue with the customer. They will give you the refund as long as they believe you haven't abused the issue (ie: asked for a refund every other month.)

Surpass is really a good hosting company all around -- but like most hosting companies that offer low rates, they have a lot more problems than the more expensive services. Traditionally speaking, spammers go to these lower priced hosting companies because it is so cheap. They abuse the system resources and everybody on the server gets affected by this. That is also why many of surpass' email servers are blacklisted. If you get a new server, you won't have email issues. My last server pass11 was blacklisted and it was a pain to send out emails. Stuff kept bouncing back to me. My new reseller server pass20 is awesome so far! Couldn't be happier! They will find you a solution -- but they can't help you if you don't tell them what you want. Sometimes problems are too big to be fixed and the damage is done -- if you feel your server is this, then transfer to another server. :)

Thanks for the tips with surpass. I am very much satisfied with their support but fed up of the uptime. I am on Pass6.

I am looking for a new host if I can get a better uptime and an equal service.

Anyone here know about incognitonetworks.com?? Any experiences?? They have an online chat support which I have tried an seems fine but if someone has real experiance of the better uptime please let me know.
