Just wondering if the Raq XTR problem from last year has been cleared up, and whether it's safe to purchase one? I'm thinking about picking up one of the 1Ghz units.

We just ordered one a 1u mini. The specs on the site looks promising. There is a comparison between the XTR and servelinux. http://www.servelinux.com Rob Troy Leaver 02-15-2002, 11:04 AM Thanks for the tip, I'm checking them out. However, I'm wondering why their admin software looks so much like Plesk? JBIZ718 02-15-2002, 01:36 PM You can do better on price then that on Cobalts Joe Chicken 02-15-2002, 03:04 PM Originally posted by Troy Leaver Thanks for the tip, I'm checking them out. Looks fine to me - we ordered one in recently for a customer and it has been up all the time on a server that has been used very heavily for forums and audio streaming. It is different to the RaQ4 though - not only is it full length, but it is also more like a typical 1U pentium machine. Nice thing is the hot swappable raid disk function. They are not cheap though... oh and to get the menu up at the front, unlike on the RaQ4 when you just need to keep 'S' pressed in for a few seconds during bootup, with the XTR you have to keep the 'S' held in for around a minute... bit none of the documentation tells you this! You also have to be careful with the memory you bung in - it has to be ECC memory. This is the company that we found out made our 2 servers from amax.com http://www.servelinux.com/products/1u.htm Its been a nightmare for both us as admins and our customers with sporadic outages since the day we got them, even our brand new server had bad ram in it, out of 5 servers we bought from them, 3 were basically DOA...the other 2, the only reason why they are doing so good is because our colo customer uses it for a mysql database and the other server his got sits there with nothing but 0.00 loads... NOTHING in their servers is name branded...not the mobo..not anything!! Every other night I wake up to a server that "stopped responding" to tcp/ip requests. Good luck on your "mini 1u" server We made the decision to get rid of our two servers and replace them with other servers we now get from our new source at Interpromicro.com Troy Leaver 02-17-2002, 03:13 PM AotI, Out of curiousity, what are the options for streaming audio from a Raq XTR, other than Real Media? I've been using Microsoft's solution on Windows, and it has been pretty solid (not to mention free). This is one thing that has made me hesitate from moving over to a Raq or Linux, being unsure of what my best non-Real audio streaming solution is going to be. Thanks! I've been using Microsoft's Real still seems to be the choice for most streamers.. however there is also Shoutcast for MP3 (and a clone called IceCast) I personally don't do any streaming so am not too familiar with the latest and greatest, but I thing the following link may help you. :-) http://www.yolinux.com/TUTORIALS/LinuxTutorialAudioStreaming.html If you have any more questions, please ask.. I do have a friend who does some streaming so should be able to get some answers for you. Troy Leaver 02-25-2002, 10:23 AM AotI, Just curious how your ServeLinux server turned out? I thought it sounded like a good deal, but I'm hesitant based on the negative feedback from AlaskanWolf.
