What is the perfect colocation plan for quality bw and colo? Suggestions please on what you the customer would want/need in a colo and in pricing.

40 different providers with 99.999% uptime, and as much rack space and bandwidth as we need for $10/month :D

Im not sure if you can get this or not but is it possible to have a remote console where we can do reboots and fscks etc without having to phone up and get someone to do it.

Actually it is very possible. The kernel has to be configured for it, also you need to buy the equipment to do it.

I was told that if you have two servers, you can actually set up a host on one server and connect the remote server to the host via its serial port and you can control the remote server via the host server ... If your servers have 2 serial ports, than you can setup host on both servers and control the other server by cross connecting the serial ports. Never done this though ...

Actually in chicago here all of the power we got comes with remote power strips.

Its very easy to setup.

Since unless you own the datacenter which the majority of us dont, regardless of how good of terms are with what u use, the majority Colocate.

My biggest thing at least for me here

Close to Home
Security
Carriers
Price

We gave up some cheaper places to get some of the other things we want.

My advice for anyone who colocates is to do this:

Set your own Criteria
Define your options
Compare and Contrast
Make your selection.

If you figure out what you want, and everyone is different, then its easy

Lease to own plans.
A website which actually shows what you offer.

Most important aspects:

Uptime with some guarantee SLA.
Good contacts with the colo provider. (ICQ/phone)
Cheaper bandwidth if customer buys bulk..

Oh and definately this..
Customers find a place to purchase a server from the web they then order the server to your office, pay with their card and then have pwebtech unpack the box and install their server. This would be an ideal setup for most of your international colo customers.

:D

Cheap rack space. Close to me so I can manage my own servers. Secure. 500TB's monthly transfer not needed.

I don't know about others but I'd love to run my network at a colo facility instead of at my house.

Ideally I'm thinking about 1/4 rack only accessed by me with a decent amount of bandwidth for less than $200 a month. So far I haven't found anything.

We just did this for an LA client. All our installs are fully automated for cpanel and non cpanel boxes. From installing redhat, apache, qmail, and mysql or just a standard cpanel install and configuration.

Where do you live? And 1/4 rack for $200 Might be able to do that how much bw do you need?

How about you sell people the server as well i presume that you buy parts etc in bulk so you might be able to give people a good price on the hardware as well. Your customers also wouldnt need to worry so much about replacing hard ware parts etc..

I agree with that. I know that sometimes co-located server owners don't have many options as far as getting things replaced goes beyond sending parts. It would be nice to have some kind of predefined pricing scheme for standard parts and the ability to have you replace things if and when they go bad.

We can do that. And yes we get excellent pricing on servers.

And rackmy the difference between NAC and DCJN is that DCJN is missing a few of nacs primary providers, UUnet, level3, internap, genuity and above.net. But it goes have AOL, Verio, Broadwing, Williams, globix and many many others.

Southern California.

I'm looking for around 1mbit. I"m assuming I'd be getting Cogent bandwidth at that price which is acceptable. I could do less depending on the deal.

PM me if you think you have something you think would fit my needs.
