Boy - I really like seeing some entry level prices at Rackspace since I've heard their customer support and data center are about the best you can have.

But I wouldn't take an AMD K6-2 even if someone gave it to me for free. That is just one slow and horrible CPU (at least I hated them in 3 different desktops systems, all of which were s l o w and horrible at multitasking, so I don't see how I would ever want it for anything I would want a decicated server for.)

jimb,scott2 thanks so far for your replies ;)

I've mailed them if they could send me the terms & conditions of those deals by mail......

Let's see how quick their support is :D

Got their e-mail back 7 minutes ago.
That's quick

The only thing is that you have to take a 6 month ( min. ) contract.
But hey, no set-up fee and some nice server prices at one of the most respected dedicated hosts ( i think ? ).

I'm really considering this one ....... :bawling:

More feedback is always welcome ;)

I would jump on this one. You'll be glad you did.
If you have the upfront money, Rackshack these days is a great deal as well.

I wonder how many people only use 30 GB of bandwidth?

At Dialtone who I think is almost equal to Rackspace in terms of quality of service you can get a PIII 1Ghz and a SCSI hard drive and 65 GB of bandwidth for $225 a month right now. What would be better about the RackSpace deal?

If the Rackspace network is faster from different locations than Dialtone, does anyone have some numbers to back this up?

diederik,
I know it was late, but I did mean RackShack.net. We have some Cobalt's there and they have been excellent at servicing our needs. While we're in the same business more or less, I still give RS high marks. :-)

As for Dialtone v Rackspace: I'd say they have comparable networks. Dialtone has a lot of providers but is in the pocket of the country known better for Miami Vice than a good location for hosting. From here in Atlanta, it's a hop-skip-and-a-jump but from Seattle, it's a 70 hour Greyhound ride (and incidentally 100+ ms thanks to physics.) Rackspace on the other hand is closer to both East & West (Texas being in the middle and all).

Bottom Line: No human can likely tell the difference.

That's the "commentary of the morning." Coffee time!

drewnick, thnx for the feedback :)

Hmmm kinda hard to find a good and not _too_ expensive dedicated box.
There many providers, but which one should I choose :erm:

I've heard many great things about RackSpace, and many good & less good comments about RackShack.....

But i want to get myself a new server a.s.ap. because mine is located at .......

[ be prepared for a shock ]

I would give http://www.venturesonline.com/hosting/dedicated.html a try, the smallest one is $200 p. month
