I’m new in Linux OS. I install Red Hat 7.1 on my laptop. But I don’t know how can I make the Verizon DSL to work. Does someone give me step-by-step explanation for that? I mean what I have to do first, second and so on. On my Win2k box I have for the Verizon DSL special application but for Linux I don’t have such kind of application. I called up to technical support of Verizon (“We don’t support Linux”).

Thanks a lot

I believe Verizon DSL uses something called PPPoE. I believe the latest versions of the Linux kernel have support for this.

I'm lucky, I've got DHCP. :)

Why do you ask?

I do understand everything quite clearly. I happen to have Verizon DSL and I run RedHat 7.1. In some areas they use PPPoE and in others they use DHCP for IP allocation. Those that get DHCP are lucky because the setup is easy.

In my area Verizon use PPPoe.

setup your network card and the rest should be a breeze. if you use the GUI (x-windows) run netconf
if not get familiar with ifconfig
you can read the man pages for both of these
man ifconfig
man netconf
good luck
