hi

im planning to register a .co.uk domain and sell it through sedo.
i dont live in the UK, not even in europe. Can i register a .co.uk domain? am i allowed as per the rules?
cos i read somewhere that .ca can only be registered by canada citizens or people having a business in canada. Does .co.uk have such kinda rules? are there any limitations?

if im allowed to register a .co.uk, where do u think i can do it for cheap. easily.co.uk seems quite cheap but i wonder if they accept paypal and know nothing abt its reputation.

registerfly seemed to be the best option for me to register a .co.uk domain at 9.99$/yr.
but i read this in sedo discussion forums - posted by an official sedo moderator
http://www.sedo.com/forum/?task=showthread&thread=904&tmp=&language=us

wat abt the ownership issue mentioned in that sedo post?
do u think il be able to sell a .co.uk domain at sedo if i register it at registerfly?

thank u

You can register co.uk domains at http://www.godaddy.com at 9.98$ per year. Everybody is allowed to register co.uk domains. It seems according to the post you posted that itīs only a problem with RegisterFly.

Hi,

To explain things a bit

Firstly you can register a .co.uk,me.uk,org.uk domain wherever you are, these domains are supplied on a first come first served principle.
All uk registrations are for a 2 year period, contrary to some registrars UK domains cannot be bought for a 1 year period nor can they be renewed on an annual basis.

UK domains are registered by tagholders ( of which Enom is one)
Tagholders can maintain all aspects of a domain with the exception of cancellation and change of registrant.
It is vitally important that the name is registered in your name as this is seen to be the legal owner by Nominet ( the UK registrar)

Do not confuse tag transfers with domain transfers they are not the same, a tag transfer only transfers the domain between tagholders. A registrant transfer can only be carried out by Nominet at a cost of Ģ30) + VAT and this can only be initiated by the registrant named on the domain whois record. So you need to factor this cost into the sale of any UK domain.

1) Never buy a UK domain in another persons name
2) Never use false information in the registration process
3) Never buy a UK name from someone who is not the registrant

I strongly suggest use a good tagholder for UK registrations and not a bucket shop, Enom has major problems with maintaining UK registrations.

So true, I would avoid enom for CCTLD's. .ca and co.uk are quite buggy . For com net org etc RegisterFly is excellent until RegisterFly moves off of enom;s CCTLD system I would not purchase a co.uk from them.

To register a .uk I would go to a UK company (and make sure I pick one that it well established and has a good reputation). Can't offer any recommendations from direct experience (as I have my own Nominet tag so can register direct with the registry for very little money), but I've heard that 123reg and UKreg are supposed to be OK.

how about 1and1.co.uk ?

i want to sell the domain that i will register in SEDO. and sedo seems to have partenered with 1and1. cos sedo is linking its 'register domain' button to 1and1.
seems like 1and1.co.uk is a safe bet then .. but i wonder y there r so many bad reviews abt it here.

thx goldwing for the 123 reg suggestion. but 1and1 seems to be cheaper than 123 reg but i guess its not a tagholder.

hmm.. i have less money to spend. ideally its gud to get my .co.uk at 123-reg but cos of the money contraint, may b i shud go for 1and1

If you are going to buy a UK domain and quibble about a few cents/dollars then you are looking for trouble.
Read the stories on here about 1&1 and go on your gut reactions

1&1 are a tagholder (Shlunde) however never even consider buying a UK domain from someone who isn't

Good luck
