Iused to stick for donhost on here, NEVER again, tolday they closed a clients account with absoulutely no warning until they had actually deleted it, I got rude emails when asking about the problem and to make matters worse..........In the last 10 minutes they have told me to delete my main hosting site because they said they received a complaint saying it was too much like another site. I foolishly paid for 1 years reseller package before i found this board and I have only had it a month. Something has to be done, there are so many complaints about them they can't keep on getting away with it.
My advice NEVER EVER EVER use Donhost

Contact your CC company and dispute charges for the remaining months.

Hi,

I've been a follower of this forum for over a year now.

I know Dan can be a little short with his answers at times, but I can say that I've not had a problem with him or his service.

I resell both NT & UNIX plans via donhost and to date have nothing to be upset about.

Donhost used to post in this forum, but he used to get flamed alot, (sometimes leaving himself open to it....), that he doesn't post anymore. I feel that only one side is being pushed here so I'm going to go out on a limb....... Donhost isn't so bad....... There I've said it.....

I've found that if you "police" your own sites, and that you're open and up front with Donhost then you get exactly the same back.

At the end of the day we are all in this to make money, without working to hard for it.......

So learn... live with it...... and move on........

I'm bound to get flamed about this, but what the heck..... I felt it needed to be said........ Donhost isn't as bad as people say..... not in my view anyway.......

Yours

Hi,

I am another Donhost user and guess what... they suck (oh that new guy who answers there phones has no idea) lol but anyway. I have an account with them (the pro acc) and I have had lots and lots of accounts closed by them for breaking there AUP which I must say is far too strick.

As my customer database is growing so fast I have made enough money though to move over to a dedicated server, so I am in the process of doing that....Which also means I can become a reseller using the software I am installing.

Anyway back to hating donhost....lol

I've read many stories of that company deleting sites without warning.

To me, it's just unethical. How difficult can it be to send a warning email?

Very unprofessional.

Oh yeah, get YOUR money back for unused services.

I stuffed up too and first went with them, And then I stuffed up again by closing my account on the 31st day when they have a 30 MBG. I am now with MChost and they seem great.

Callum how long had you paid for???

I know they had to close my site if they had a complaint about it but that was just the last straw i am sick of their rude tech support, they close accounts for no reason and they dont give you what they offer in their packages..........50 gig bandwidth yeah right

Live and learn... Try asking them for a refund for your remaining months. I was able to get a refund from them. On another note, I saw donhost in the currently active users list earlier today.

I just said that I didn't like the service and wanted my money back. It was within 30 days though. Still, you're entitled for the rest of the year's worth.

Hi Ukspace4u,

Don Host act like the big PLC and a huge force in UK Web Hosting they try to use bully tactics to firghten off customers.

I have to say that I have been with them twice in the past and have claimed my refund within 30 days thus no problems for me but I hate to see these small little companies act like big conclomerates and feel it is now time to act. can EVERYONE reading this please E-Mail me at davecottage@hotmail.com with details of your problems and your E-Mail address'es. I will then build up a decent case as display it to Don Host.

Re getting your money back Don Host have NO legal stance if they deleted your or your clients account for no reason atall and they have no proof then I would first reccomend you saying to them that unless they offer a settlement you will be left no other option but to seek legal advice and if need be BBC Watchdog (which always frightens companies :-))

I hope this has been of help to you and I wish you the best of luck with this please feel free to conact me personally if you want to.

I made the jump from Donhost to MCHost when they started deleting accounts without warning for no reason, and getting rude support to the point where they were insulting me.
And then there was the case of being charged again AFTER I had canceled (luckily I resolved that one).

I can't say I could be any happier with MCHost - they actually seem to give a rat *ss about there customers :)

I'd suggest that if you have your doubts then you shouldn't wait for the next problem. There are cheaper, more effective, polite and less dictatorial services out there so I'd start making plans to beat feet as soon as possible.

Bottom line, giving Donhost a poke in the eye is one thing but it's a darned sight easier to deal with a problem proactively and get the heck away than await the inevitable.

Good luck

How can you say that when up above you said you don't need nearly as much as what is on offer at Donhost?

I agree with Sysweb. We've been with Donhost, and two other reseller services, for 12 months without any major hassles. Connectivity is rock solid, and the product is delivered as per the agreement. We've got clients who have asked us to ensure we remain affiliated with Donhost even though we have our own servers now.

We monitor our account regularly. We've got a monthly report we run, to ensure *we* are not a burden on Donhost (look at the price). Occasionally we've moved a site, with full client cooperation.

The tacidhost's of this world have thickened the skins of providers like Donhost. They are not the only ones to have a strict set of policies in place about what resellers can and can't do, but at least they back their product up with near perfect uptime. I'd be here all day if I tried to count the number of times a day some others go down.

At the end of the day, I don't think anybody else has come near to offering something that compares to Donhost. It just requires a bit of commonsense and a good working relationship with the site owners one puts on there.

Cheers

Gary

Frankly were only giving advise here, if you don't want to take it thats totally up to you.
We just like warn people of this sort of host, I have personally been burnt by DonHost and I see so many people say they are wonderfull ony to come back a few months asking how to get rid of them :(

If it works for you then thats fine, we just don't want to see people like you get burnt.

Hi Gary the bandwidth problem was not mine i should have said that, that was what happened to a friend, i do not dispute the fact that their deal seems very good for price and what you get........connectivity has been good apart from in the last month a server got hacked and a whole datacentre went down sue to a powerfailure and i have only had my account a month.
everyone is entitled to their own opinion but personally i dont particularily like them at the moment

acidHL - that's okay...we don't tend to get burnt. But for the amount of money we pay Donhost, I'm more concerned about it being the other way around. If we, or one of our clients burns them (read: tries to run up a Tucows mirror on their network for example) then of course they'll act on that.

tazd9t9 - good luck with your new arrangements. My post was just to reiterate what I've always maintained, and that is the Donhost product does work. Obviously just not for all.

Cheers

Gary i think they could do with more staff, it would help their problems and they could have staff trained to do tech support instead of Daniel and the new guy doing all the work, it would be easier on them and the customers :o

That may be so mate. I really couldn't say, as we don't have much reason to contact them ourself. Once a month we get a report, but other than that it just purrs along.

Cheers

Don't know if these hosts are any good, but their reseller deal looks realistic for the cost.

I can not comment on this one but I hope we all agree that this does NOT apply to spammers. :)

I would've thought we would all agree that it does not apply to those who stuff their filespace with the hard work of software developers and offer illegal downloads, as well.

I've always been willing to listen to the *other* side of the Donhost argument, until I read a post where a client was throwing bricks at Donhost, abusing them for cutting his reseller off, with lines like "bloody Donhost...I didn't even know there was an AUP!!!".

Somehow that was Donhost's fault too.

Cheers
