It depends what you're looking for... My company uses CDGCommerce for our merchant account, and they offer 3 (or more, can't remember) gateway choices. There is however a monthly fee of $15 and a gateway fee of $10/month (maybe I switched the numbers around), but with our volume, it works out perfectly. Couldn't have asked for a better team to work with.

Here's some info on ProPay:ProPay is a merchant-account provider, not an e-commerce enabler. So all transactions must be manually entered on ProPay's web site. We do offer limited web-site integration of our merchant accounts. Currently the only way to integrate your ProPay Account to your web site or shopping cart, to enable automatic seamless processing, is by using our XML Interface which is $395 annually.

Matt,

Do you know the rates of CDGCommerce for each transaction?

thank you.

Propay seems better.

Propay seems like a third party processor. Sometimes it is very difficult to tell. If you are in the United States and you are going to be doing more than $1,000 a month, a merchant account is usually better.

Thanks for the mention, Matt & Corey. :)

I'd definitely agree that for U.S. merchants planning on doing over $500-1,000/month, a true merchant account is always a better option.

Although, I'm not sure as to the exact definition of ProPay based on their Web site. The one that operates very differently from a conventional merchant account is that it appears that funds are NOT automatically deposited into your local bank account.

Thus, it is up to the merchant to continually go in and request transfers of funds as opposed to an automated deposit right into their bank account as with a conventional merchant account. So in a sense, ProPay "acts" more like a PayPal account than a regular merchant account.

The listed 3.50% + .35 also seems pricey in comparison with most conventional merchant account options and what the industry typical pricing is on a U.S. merchant account.

While a higher % can make sense for a very low volume U.S. merchant not even wanting to incur any monthly fees at all, I'd think that most of those folks would be more likely to sign up with PayPal instead since there is no annual fee and the %'s are a little lower.

I contacted with CDGcommerce and waiting a special from them. Well, Propay still seems the best. Any other alternatives?

danke.

Mind sharing why you think Propay is the best? That way, we can maybe agree with you for your situation or help to show you why another company would be better than Propay

Because, their fees are low and their site is very easy to use.

thank you for your help.

If you are going by fees - CDG's is lower on the discount rate side. I am sure that CDG has a site that will show you how easy his site is to operate.

Since we do not know your monthly volume or transaction cost, let's assume 40 transactions a month at $100. With Propay, you are looking at spending about $155.00. With CDG, you are spending it might be about $130.00.

It looks like CDG has a new site (http://www.cdgcommerce.com/whtpromo.php) for their WHT promo which looks a lot more appealing than their former one. I could be wrong, but it looks like there is no more gateway fee.. just the monthly $10 statement fee which is very attractive especially with all the free setup for Internet businesses and free stuff for brick/mortar businesses.

Happy Holidays!

Actually, there is still a gateway fee that applies to Internet merchants - albeit with some new options that didn't exist before in terms of available gateways to choose from.

And you are definitely correct in that the free Credit Card Terminal / Check Reader / Signature Capture for bricks & mortar merchants is new.
