i signed up for an account at registerfly .. added funds to it through my paypal.
purchased 1 whois protection pack for 1 domain for 0.99$


and then i tried to register a domain. i filled up all the steps. and after did the final step, i got this error

"Unable to connect Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)"


is it a problem from my side?
i dont think so cos i have no problems with my internet connection.

or is this a temporary problem from their side?

this is the first time im registering a domain and i chose registerfly cos they have a very cost-effective whois protection pack.

i just wonder wats happening .. i clicked on "24/7 Live Sales Chat" .. and this message appeared
"The RegisterFly.com Sales Associates are currently busy attending to other customers. Please contact us via this form or call us at 845-586-5300"

i filled up that form and sent a message to them.


do u guys have any idea abt this error? did it happen to u ever? it will be hard for me to believe that its a prob from my side.

i have another question:
there is a special offer for protectfly till 31dec .. costs only 0.99$ each domain. but after the offer ends, its gonna cost more. i plan to register some domains later in january. so if i buy some whois protection packs now itself. can i use them later in january?

I just registered over a dozen today and had no issues. Maybe they were doing maintenance when you tried earlier.

They have been running the .99 promo for a while. Safe assumption this will be continued

thx for the suggestion frattay22, but at namecheap, i mite get whois protection for free this year but its gonna charge abt 4$ next yr. i prefer protectfly which costs 0.99(special offer) now + about 2$ next yr = 3$ for 2yrs

sure, I buy them in 500 blocks a time and use them as I register new names. In my default profile I specify apply whois protection to all new registrations this way every new name I register is protected.

ok heres another question. if i buy a whois protection pack in january but use it to a domain name in june, when will that protectfly pack expire? next january or next june?

It is 1 year from when you purchase the pack not when you use it. I go through them pretty quick so this is not an issue.
