View Full Version : Who Do I Contact?
gghosting 12-25-2004, 09:23 PM I have a client that owns a domain name that will expire next November. The hosting company that he registered the domain name with closed down a few weeks ago. Who can I contact to transfer the domain name?
Thanks and Happy Holidays!
gghosting 12-26-2004, 10:11 AM The registrar is out of business.
nameslave 12-26-2004, 11:08 AM I guess zoid meant the ICANN-accredited registrar.
gghosting 12-26-2004, 11:53 AM Okay, I contacted the registrar and they told me that they can't help me. So I went to eNom and they told me that I should contact the registrar. They are giving me the big run-around.
FanCube 12-26-2004, 01:23 PM What is the name of the registrar your client was using?
gghosting 12-26-2004, 07:16 PM Transnexis Domains (its a company in the U.K.)
Corey Bryant 12-26-2004, 07:24 PM Is this it: http://www.transnexis.com/
gghosting 12-26-2004, 07:27 PM Sorry I didn't post the link.
Yes Corey that is the link.
Corey Bryant 12-26-2004, 07:31 PM No worries. The reason I was asking - it looks like they are still in business? That was why I was actually asking.
Usually with some registrars, their resellers will allow you to transfer their domain to them. I know that Bulk Register will allow this (I ran into the same problem in June of this year actually myself).
gghosting 12-26-2004, 07:51 PM Corey, the host that my client registered the domain name with was a reseller out of Transnexis which is a reseller off of eNom. However Transnexis is saying that they can't help me and the only one who can help is the reseller of them, which is out of business.
I don't want to transfer the domain name, I just want to change the name servers.
Corey Bryant 12-26-2004, 08:05 PM Gotcha. Seems like a lot of reselling going on. And it sounds like persistence is the key.
When this happened to me - I called Bulk Register. The first time the directed me to a reseller. I calmly explained to them the problem - since all the resellers wanted money from my client. Finally Bulk Register put me into contact with their company they created for single users.
Surely Transnexis has ran into this problem before. I do not know if you can call them or not? Enom should want to help you but honestly, the biggest problems here are the companies letting the resellers "sell" their business. And yes I can say this because I am a reseller for some products.
The resellers cannot offer the support they wish because the company maintains most of it. Transnexis or Enom should be able to check on Transnexis Domains to see that the company is no longer in business and transfer the domain to Transnexis. (Actually I would hope the company would transfer them all to Transnexis.)
gghosting 12-26-2004, 10:59 PM They do have a phone number but it is a U.K. number and I am not sure how much it would cost to call there from the U.S.
Corey Bryant 12-27-2004, 09:32 AM Well their online help is always offline. But usually a phone call is a lot in this matter. Maybe keep calling eNom today and see what happens. Since it is around these holidays maybe you might get a helpful soul that can see the real problems here
Dave Zan 12-27-2004, 10:21 AM For domain names registered thru resellers of actual registrars,
the partner registrar will always refer you to the reseller first and
ask you to exhaust all options.
If you've really exhausted all your options with the reseller, then
contact the partner registrar (eNom) and explain the case again
and again if you have to, although it's inconvenient.
gghosting 12-27-2004, 02:55 PM Yeah I did contact eNom and I finally got a reply and they said that they will try to help me now.
Lets see what happens.
