Is there a Hostmatters hosting plan capable of supporting a vBulletin forum... with approx the traffic of this forum without over charges??? Also will it be as fast as this one that is apparently Hosted on hostmatters?

Thank you

Well as far as I know, this board isn't on anything special (not its own server or anything), and any plan that offers php and SQL would do. vBulletin is pretty fast no matter where you put it (as long as the server isn't overcrowded and has plenty of ram which Alabanza servers do). I belive Matt said it averaged around 9 Gb/mo (I think).

Do you know of any other vbulletin sites that are hosted by Hostmatters so that I could compare their size and speed.

What about OLM servers, they seem to have a pretty good special that has a 10G allowance according to others on this board.

I personally don't but you could email/ICQ them and I'm sure they could give you some examples. I've only heard good things about OLM too, very solid service, though you might want to look into getting the biggest package you can (or at least making sure you can upgrade, etc.), since their overage charges are *still* steep in some cases. They are much better than they used to be, but...

I colo a server at tera-byte.com, and maybe they have a package that interests you? You could also check out the thread in the Advertsing section:

That has a healthy listing of the hosts that frequent this forum. Plenty to choose from, and really there are some very good, friendly hosts listed there!

Well, you wouldnt need anything special to run VBulletin. Just php4 and a mysql database. VBulletin doesnt put too much of load on the server as compared to UBB, simply because it works using mysql.

First things first this forum has dome on the best response I've ever seen. I realise that some of these questions may have been answered before, but everyone is so kind. I would usually get a nasty response from a moderator to do a search, even though the topics are sometimes not specific enough. Not that I won't use that forum, it just that my post usually gets lost in a spent forum.

Now on to my next question.
What I was referring to is that Hostmatters states that this site is requiring sometimes in excess of 10G per month trafic. I have no idea how long it will take me to get to that level, but i want to be prepared and at the same time i'm getting ready for retirement and on a limited buget.

Chicken, thanks for you referal to tera-byte.com they look great so far. Are their servers fast on their shared hosting plans and is the upgrade plan smooth as you grow?
I've looked around so much and tried so many I'm really getting confused. The one I try seem to provide good support at first then expect you to be on you own soon after the 30 day refund period. i.e. ***** and the likes.

wajones, you dunt need to worry about the bandwidth as yet.

The upgrade plan for any host will be smooth, hopefully ;) Just a question, of increasing the vaules of bandwidth and space.

Tera-byte servers are real fast, and there uptime is great.
