For some reason I can't get reverse DNS to work.

domain -> 1.1.1.1 * works
1.1.1.1 -> domain * doesn't work

When i login to my box and do nslookup 1.1.1.1 it returns domain. So setup seems to be correct.

you need reverse resolution delegation.
Does your data center/uplink offer it?

Most ISP's don't delegate IP lookups, so give them your full hostname.domain_name.tld and ask them to set up a PTR in their DNS for every IP assigned to you. That will fix your problem.
