Which products can aggregate/cap bandwidth. I have been looking at the Alteon 180, but i am not sure of others to compare it too. Or where to even buy such products. Any pointers?

Thanks

Mike is right, a multilayer switch is your best bet. The Alteon 18x boxes are too expensive on a per-port basis to use simply for bandwdith management.

If you are looking for a dedicated box, take a look at the:

PacketShaper: http://www.packeteer.com/products/packetshaper/index.cfm

QOSWorks: http://www.sitaranetworks.com/products/qosworks/

To answer your other question, load balancing products similar to the Alteon 180 are:

Cisco Arrowpoint

You could cap using "tc" in linux or "ipfw" in fbsd to do traffic shaping.

I was looking at the alteon to cap on per IP basis, no way in hell I would use that to cap on a perport. Ill look at these other products mentioned.

Thanks

Hi,
I'm thinking about using bandwidth manager from ETINC , but I do not know how to purchase the ethernet card,
Is it a 2 port ethernet card?
what model name/product is the best for it?

Its quite confusing because they don't mention this at all on their site.
