View Full Version : Interland/Icom migration - site down for 5 days

Just to share an Interland horror story ....

I was an icom.com customer -- they were bought out by Interliant (who were bought out by Interland). They attempted to change-over servers on Thursday of last week.

My site went down mid-day Thursday and has remained down. Finally today I can access the site ... but it's completely blank. All my files are gone!

I've already moved my domain to VenturesOnline.com and am happy there, but I still want access to the files I had on my icom site. I've got a few files that weren't backed up.

Interland does not offer phone support for their icom customers -- they don't respond to trouble tickets (they closed out my first two with only a "we're working on it" message) -- and they have disabled their support email accounts since this outage. I tried to leave a voicemail message, but their voicemail boxes at the corporate headquarters are full.

And what's worse, if I ever do get a real-live person, their only suggestion is that I buy a more expensive service package so I could get phone support! One sales person even said that as long as I had a backup of the site, if I bought the more expensive package she could have me up and running within an hour.

That definitely struck me the wrong way -- is it just me, or does that sound like extortion?

Anyway, I'd love to never have to deal with the company again, but I want my files!

Alas, I've got three other sites at Icom for my customers. One is also down for all this time, the other two are alive and I'm working on moving them as we speak!

<sigh> Thank you for listening to my whining. I appreciate your indulgence.

Join the club. I use to setup customer accounts at Interland (several years ago) and within the past 6 months, they have all moved due to piss-poor service, downtime, etc.. So on the bright side, apparently Interland sucks equally as well for any customer. I say all the more power to them -- hopefully they will continue to buy up and piss off customers so the customers will join some of the more respectable and knowledgable companies that frequent this board.

If I were you I would signup for a Interland account where you get phone support. Then when your files are restored and you have them on a secure place I would make a charge back. If you are a nice guy you maybe ask them for the 30day money back guarantee but I wouldn't count on that.
