Putting together a server for several big sites... network with lots of free services...

Now what do you think of this:

CPU AMD XP 1700+ 1.47GHz
CPU Cooler Neolec Socket Athlon 2.0 Ghz paps
Mot GigaByte SA GA-7 DXR AMD-76 (Click here for details (http://www.giga-byte.com/products/7dxr.htm))
Floppydrive 3,5"
4x CDROM (mitsumi) - Yeah it's slow but only gonna use it once
Sis 6??? 4MB AGP (it's a server... :D)
2x DDR 512MB 266 Infineon/MSC CL2
2x IDE Seagate 40GB UDMA100/7200T Bar.IV (mirrored trough raid)
2x ONDRIVE coolers (screwed onto the HDD)
2x FRONTSIZE 5.25" HDD Coolers
Netwerk PCI 3Com 3C905C-TX- M
a 2U case (Click here for details (http://www.bonchic.nl/pages/products/productset.php4) - any suggestions? 2U? Or 4U for this config?)

What do you think of the config? motherboard etc etc...
I will run RedHat 7.2 on it and it's used for several (potentially) big bandwidth sites...

2 Things.

1. Remove RedHat install Solaris or *BSD
2. Get SCSI, it makes a HUGE different then using IDE.

1. Last time I check, Sun discontinue its Solaris x86 line, so it is not a good idea to use it. :)

2. That would be correct 5 years ago. But with todays technology I don't believe it anymore.

Priyadi, I don't think so. SCSI is still superior to IDE.

Yes, I definitely agree, but the differences is not HUGE like the other poster said.

scsi is a big difference if you have a big server doing a lot of I/O. As for solaris on a x86.. i wouldn't. Stick with linux. x86 solaris is not good on a x86 arch. Now if you have sun hardware then solaris is the way to go all the way.

There is indeed a "HUGE" difference between SCSI and IDE. Why then get a 1.7 GHz processor? Just get a 1 GHz and will be enough, after all, your processor will outperform the drives.
