Have any of you guys ever used 1&1 Internet for domains? I see they are really cheap, and I want to know if anyone has ever had a bad experience with them.

Yes, they are cheap but they are a loss leader. Your bound to find happy and angry people with 1and1 because they are a very, very large company. AcBush 12-23-2004, 04:27 AM I have been with them before, just wanted to see others experiences. I have ordered 3 domains with them I beleive. I am really satisfied, fast DNS changes, and when I ordered my first domain they sent me a booklet in the mail about how to use my 1&1 Control panel etc... I was really satisfied. fewcoin 12-23-2004, 11:43 AM I have a few domains with them. The main turn off is their transfer in policy where you have to fill out a fax. Another, although a simple thing, there is no expiration dates shown. Otherwise, everything works, no complaints there. fewcoin realty 01-10-2005, 08:42 AM Their interface is very bad. Even if you save $1, you will lose hours. Gerrit 01-10-2005, 09:42 AM Originally posted by fewcoin I have a few domains with them. Wow, that's a great protection against domain theft. Been looking for a registrar requiring paperworks for a long time already, so far I only found Alternetdomains.com who still use paperworks. I wish they all did it, the good old days... :) trivum 01-12-2005, 01:15 PM I used them because the price looked good, and I had heard before that they were associated with Microsoft in some way (maybe not officially, but somehow) - thought that would make them reputable. When I registered my name, it took a day or more for the info to show up in whois. I didn't like that at all. I would check my domain at other registrars and it would say it was available. I wonder what would have happened had someone else tried to register the same domain that day (it does happen sometimes!). From my own experience and others comments here, it seems they are unneccessarily slow and cumbersome. I'm looking elsewhere next time. fewcoin 01-12-2005, 03:00 PM Originally posted by Gerrit So to change owner or to transfer the domain away, you need to sign a paper and send out a fax ? No Way!...too time consuming for me. fewcoin Gerrit 01-12-2005, 05:14 PM I register only for own use, so without the intention of ever transferring away to another owner. So for me paperworks are definitely a big advantage over non-paperwork-using registrars. |
