Hi,
I've been researching some of the "faux-merchant accounts"(!) available and I was wondering something:
If most of these only allow you to set it up for your customers to pay real-time on your website rather than allowing you to key in transactions manually, what's to stop you passing any details you want through to their servers from a web page, i.e. manually entering transactions?!
Or am I stepping on dodgy ground here?!
Thanks,
Ed

I think the reason is just to avoid to get stolen credit cards entered. They normally log the IP-number and especially if you have international customers, they use other IP-ranges in europe than in the U.S.
They also will be alerted if several credit cards will come from the same IP-address, which also indicates stolen card numbers. So If you enter 10 card numbers from your computer, you will probably been accused for credit card fraud :D

Thanks for the info!
I can understand the security methods but surely there must be a way around this? All I want is effectively a revecom with a manual entry option!
Hmmm... maybe I'll try to twist my bank manager's arm... :D
A 3rd party service that enables what you want recently advertized on WHT. Take a look at hostcharge.com.

Hi,
I have been using ProPay.com for quite a while and they recently added an option where the merchant can manually enter transactions.
You might look them up and see if their service meets your needs.

Yes you are :D It's called factoring and you get jail time for it. Without being cleared for a real merchant account you're not allowed to enter anyone else's details anywhere

This is what I thought too, but lately there has come up some solutions offering a lot more customization.

Where a guy from swreg says it's ok for the seller to collect cc info and post that info to them, a kind of home-grown recurring billing...

I think I'd be checking that out with a lawyer first. There are some pretty good reasons why people have to go through the wringer to get accepted for a merchant account after all.
