I signed up for one of the Autica $2/month trial reseller accounts over the summer. At the end of the trial period, I cancelled the account, or thought I did. Autica continued to attempt to bill me for this "service" that I no longer used or had access to. I never keep money in my paypal account so for the most part these transactions were declined. I sent Autica several emails asking them why this was happening, none were ever answered. Just recently money was transferred into my paypal account, and before I could transfer it out, Autica hit me with several charges. Because I paid with the Virtual Debit Card feature on paypal's site, I am having a hard time issuing a chargeback. What would you do in my situation?

Send in a ticket to midPhase's billing department?

If in the US I wouild call that 800 number and complain big time if not did you keep the email that you sent autica telling them to cancel the account. I would forward that and any contact information you can find for autica.com to paypal and let them deal with it.

You did this in good faith and paypal should be able to rectify this for you.

If that dosen't work then go the midphase route and see what you can accomplish.

After talking with paypal, they showed me how to cancel my Virtual Debit Card and apply a chargeback for these charges (it's different than normal). Thanks for the help guys, and if anyone from midphase sees this, I'd love to know why you don't respond to emails ...

Chumpman,

You are free to call us about these, we'd be happy to take care of them for you. I would highly recommend against a chargeback. We can handle it by hand, but charging back won't end well for anyone involved. We do send all chargebacks to a collection agency.

You send charge backs on illegal transactions to a collections agency?

That's like trying to go to a police station and sell the policemen crack at their desks.

This transaction isn't "illegal" -- there is no record of an attempted
cancellation thus we're within our rights to attempt to autocharge
the credit card.

We send all chargebacks received, unless we find it to be a fraudulent
transaction (which we scrub out before we capture them 99% of the
time anyway) to a collection agency. If the customer wants to resolve
it properly, he can call us 24/7 at 312-386-1640 x4 for billing and we'll
take care of him.

My trial reseller account was cancelled yet my credit card was still being billed two months later, fortunately for me that card was cancelled yet I still emails about due invoices! You tell us to call, but your phone setup is useless. Sometimes it just rings off the hook, other times you will be held for ages then it suddenly disconnects. For the last few months we`ve been told the phone system has been upgraded, to me however it is as bad as ever.

maritimesbob,

We do have a new phone system, it was installed months ago and
it does not hang up on people. I can assure you of two things:

a. This is not a place to resolve disputes and we're not able to help
you directly on WHT.

b. If you call us we can take care of it. Here is a direct ext: 312-386-1640 x223

Dan

P.S. Regardless -- happy 2005!
