Hi Everyone

If you are looking for a dedicated server, or hosting, i strongly recommend do not go with these companies. As many have said before, Catalog was great when you start out, but as soon as you get at least 1-2 months into the server, you will notice that your site goes down at least once a day, right around 2-3 pm (Alaska time)

I went to the extent of moving my server to their Sprint backbone, do you think that made a differance? no instead of outages every day for 15 minutes, i get outages at least 1-2 times every other day lasting 10-30 minutes. Right now, my site is down, also catalog.com

I even emailed them and quoted straight from their site..

---START (SNIPPED)----
Your site says it all: "We have at least 3 redundant fiber connections at each of our faculties."

Now with that said, I looked up what redundant means:

"serving as a duplicate for preventing failure of an entire system upon failure of a single component"

Now with THAT said, why am I STILL getting outages every 2 days? Why am I STILL getting 1000 ms pings?
---END---

All they replied back "we fixed the bpg table, its fixed now) this is after 4 hours of downtime. yes, 4 hours. I emailed them at 10:30 am, and finally got it fixed at 2:30 pm

COBALTRACKS

Now, this is a compay full of you know what.

1. They blame everything on their backbone
2. They are such a small company, it seems Sam Moats runs the whole operation
3. You can never get Sam to reply to any emails anyway
4. You can expect at least 16 hours of downtime *yes this was posted on the cobalt mailing list from last month*
5. With us, we resold their servers, they went to the extent of shutting down the wrong server!

This was the 2nd chance i gave this company. I recommend stay as far away from them as possible. They do not have support, and they do not have a reliable backbone. All they can say is "wait until next month"

I guess cobalt racks are also selling people who purchase 4i racks, their giving them 3i racks with 4i software installed. Per previous post.

PepsiCoke,

Strange stuff this. I also moved to the Sprint connection and I have had no problem at all.

I've been in and out of my server for at least 24 hours straight (yawnn) uploading and installing, and not one interruption so far.

I have a few sites over at DN and they have been a blackhole for over 18 hours now. I have been doing traceroutes from different starting points (thanks for the tip Charles Baker:) and they show extreme variations in the results.

I hear Catalog are going to change their main provider anytime soon. Maybe this will help.

Cheers.;)
