What are some websites that allow web hosts to submit press releases for free?

I know hostrelease.com but that is all I know.

You might want to consider www.prweb.com as well.

I've used prweb and prpal.com for non-web-hosting press releases, and the responses were quite respectable, especially for the cost and the narrow interest of the releases. I'll definately use them again.

Only caveat is that both require about 24 hours for your releases to go "live", so to speak, if I recall correctly. Not so great for breaking-news. :)

I would imagine he's expecting to get "press" or publicity.

Press releases are a wonderful tool for marketing. Make sure your press release does not sound like an advertisement. Go to PRWeb.com and read some of the advertisements - ehm, I mean press releases. ;) For a press release to be effective it needs to have a news character - not plain stupid advertising. It's also worth paying the $30.00 at PRWeb.com - you get a much higher exposure. Make sure you log in to your account after creating the press release and select additional industry-groups for the press release assigned to.

Any site that specializes in newsworthy content accepts press releases. We could generate a list of hundreds, even thousands.

Thehostingnews.com is one, as well as Ping!Zine.

But like someone else said, your press release isn't an advertisement. There are elments to an effective press release and that is what editors and journalists look for, they don't care if you have a sale or not--they just want a good story. :)

Best wishes and Happy Holidays.
