Hi folks,

Now I doubt that any of you folks know exactly which Content Management System (CMS) does all of the hard work for ALA (http://www.alistapart.com) but I'm after something similar in terms of how it structures the pages.

Essentially I'm looking for a CMS which can mimick how ALA does things. In other words, it should be able to publish "Issues" with one or more articles in it. With all of the usual permalinks, cruft-free urls, categorization, searching, user comments and so on.

I'm working on a LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) server so needs to fit those criteria. It needs to be free (or inexpensive) since it is for a not-for-profit venture. Oh, and it needs to be easily deployable and a sinch for modifying the frontend to our own templates.

Not asking too much am I? Before suggesting possible CMS software, please note that I'm after something which can do the things described above (act like ALA) preferably out-of-the-box... hacking up a blog system is not acceptable (unless done well, of course).

Any ideas?

The search is by atomz, the CMS is custom I believe. I really doubt there is anything thats up to par with what ALA uses thats also open-source/free/cheap.

If you do find something, I'd love to know about it. Mind shooting over a PM if that will be the case? :stickout:

Well to be honest, Mambo OS can do just about anything except make you breakfast.

We have used it to create standard sites,Community sites,Blog sites and much more.

To date we have found nothing it can't do. It is on par with enterprise applications and can be adapted to ANY design.

And yes, it's FREE.

As far as the reference site, it does appear to be a custom system.
