View Full Version : Alldns problem - HELP!!!
PoohBear 12-01-2000, 03:40 PM I bought a domain name through alldns.com a month ago. I tried to change the server info but I am getting no response. I've sent emails, filled out the form, phoned, faxed --- nothing! I've gotten so mad I've been emailing everyone on their list 20 times a day hoping they will get sick of me and fix the problem. I've faxed about 10 things today also. I even filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. (I just filed the complaint today.) Is there anything I can do? The domain name I bought is for my business so I am really screwed. I can't believe they are getting away with this. When you phone, they tell you to leave a message but no one calls back.
Can anyone help me, PLEASE???????

Recently, they've changed the userid system, which if you want to change the DNS server, you have to request userid for you paticularly domain again, very hassle if you have a lot of domains.
I followed Annette and Duster advices, email to all of them in the contact page, and like Duster's said, always be nice and don't get mad. Additionally, threaten them with laywer stuff did work in my case. Now, they replied any email I send within 1 day. To change the registrar, you have to pay $25 though. So I guess I have to stay with them for a while. Good luck.
PoohBear 12-01-2000, 11:30 PM Thanks for the info. I have to say that I started out very nice but I slowly got meaner because I don't like being yanked around. I never resorted to name calling so that's good! I have filed a couple complaints against them already. I also found several other people who are having the same problem. I may contact the FBI. What this company is doing is illegal. If they do not deliver the service that they sold, then they are fraudulent.
I've sent them a few threatening emails but they still haven't budged. I can't believe the nerve of them. I may even contact some local news stations. When this is all over, Alldns will be sorry they screwed with me.
Chicken 12-02-2000, 10:47 AM "PoohBear" only *sounds* cute and cudly, eh? Can be a GRIZZLY if ya' push 'em :)
Spider John 12-02-2000, 12:16 PM I always suspected that about Pooh Bear. He struck me as the type of bear that would slap around that Christopher Robin guy for givin him lip and all that sorta stuff. (By the way, what's Barney getting himself into these days?)
PoohBear 12-02-2000, 01:33 PM Yes, Pooh Bears can be mean. (Pooh Bear says, with bloody fur between her teeth.) I finally got a response and I must say it is sad that it takes 20 emails, faxes, and phone calls, some of them threatening, to finally get a response out of those people. They had the nerve to say that I didn't fill out the form properly. I find that hard to believe considering ALL the forms, calls, faxes, etc. They were ALL wrong and confusing? Is this Florida? If there was a problem, why didn't they contact me sooner? Their response also stated I gave a fraudulent address, which is true because my company is in my home. My friend was shocked to discover that when she filled out the domain registry, her personal info went up for the world to see. This is dangerous for women. I didn't want to make the same mistake so I made up a silly one. They said that I may lose the name if I don't change it.
What a wild ride I'm on. Just a moment ago I was given yet another message from them saying I got a new Maintainer ID. I will use that to make the needed server changes, but I will not put my personal address in there. What a mess!!
Spider John 12-02-2000, 02:33 PM Might I suggest a P.O. Box and a separate phone line for business purposes only? This way, you can keep your company information separate from your personal information, and if you do choose to fill out forms online, you won't have to worry about people knowing where you live, what your number is, etc.
Not being a woman (since the operation...whoops..I've said too much), I can't totally relate to the threat to my personal safety. Nevertheless, your information is your information to disclose as you see fit. So if AllDNS gives you a hard time about putting a false address in, remind them that they really don't have any reason to need to know it in the first place, since they aren't providing you a service that requires them to know it.
As far as the telephone issue goes, unless you have an unlisted number (which, for business purposes, is somewhat detrimental), your address can easily be obtained from any of the reverse lookup services out there. (http://555-1212.com, for example, has such a service.) So again, I would suggest you get a business line and register it with a P.O. Box number.
Good luck to you Bear. And if you need your teeth and claws sharpened, I know a guy. :)
Duster 12-02-2000, 04:29 PM I would sugggest any and all of you that have had problems with alldns.com to file complaints with ICANN, http://www.icann.org ICANN is the one who accredits all registrars. Alldns.com is so bad that they should be out of the business. They are much too inept to be handling anything as importand as domain registrations.
I've used them in the past and have one domain remaining with them, which I will be transferring to 000domains, where I have all the rest.
They have had too many problems for too long to be allowed to remain in business. Spread the word.
If needed, I'll give you a hand.
PoohBear 12-04-2000, 03:58 PM Alldns finally fixed the problem. The funny thing is, they wanted my address changed, and I did try to do this (I was going to put a P.O. box in there) but surprise! Surprise! My changes didn't take! Ha, ha. I don't care, I got the server info changed so that's all I cared about. I'm really not sure why their forms don't work or why they don't respond to changes. A few years ago I worked as a programmer at General Motors and I know that if your database or program doesn't work, you need to fix your code. Sometimes the problem is not the program, it's the server and/or server software. This could be why they never respond to responses - they may not be getting them. (It doesn't excuse ignoring phone calls, faxes or emails though!) All in all, they need to either close their doors or give themselves a complete overhaul.
Thanks for all the advice. I appreciated it!! Pooh Bear is now happy.
musicnow 12-05-2000, 11:31 AM I'm another very unhappy alldns sucker (customer) purchased over 120 url's and can't get any response to my emails. Can anyone give me an email address for these guys OTHER than that listed on their site. I've written over 200 times over the past 7 months with NO REPLY. Not even my web hosting service can get through. I'm currently on assignment in Italy, so I gave up on phone calls many $$$$$ ago.
Any real help?
PoohBear 12-05-2000, 11:58 AM You poor thing!! To have that many url's with them and getting no response. Yikes!! Let's see what we can do . . . . First, send NUMEROUS emails to all the emails listed. There is about 6 or 7. I also cut and pasted the emails into the cc: as well as the To: field. This would guarantee they got it TWICE. Evil, I know but I think it helped. Next: Send NUMEROUS faxes. After this: I filed a couple of complaints against them. Try BBB online (Better Business Bureau). Their site is a little tough to navigate, but hang in there. I also contaced ICANN. That site was a little hard to figure out too but just send an email complaining. That's all I did. I also went to a site called fraud.com. I filed a complaint with them too.
I hate to say this, but you really have to be a pain in the butt. I couldn't believe it when they ignored me too. If you have been trying for 7 months, they owe you a year's worth of free service as far as I'm concerned. That is unacceptable. They screwed me out of one month. If you need to, I would even suggest getting a lawyer. You can probably contact one online that works in their city.
Good luck.
