Hello,

Does anyone have some experience in setting up a small webhosting company? Can someone describe in some steps and details how you started your own webhosting company. Maybe you van give us some tips.

Thanx..

This is a pretty good web site:
http://www.webhostingresourcekit.com/

You can also look at the tutorials section here under Running a Web Hosting Business.

Do you have any specific questions?

I will give you the steps I am going through...

1. Talk to an accountant
2. Talk to a lawyer
3. Look around for the best host to start with (I would recommend a reseller account).
4. Get a business for (LLC, ect)
5. Get a business license
6. Write a business plan
7. Write a Game plan
8. Do major research
9. Get a website design done
10. Get everything set up reseller account wise (very simple).
11. Your on your way to go.

Though I would suggest to have at lease 6 months to a year worth of income before starting. Be honest with your clients, and treat them with respect, and do not treat them like a number. If something is going wrong with a server or what not be honest about it. Do not hide to them about it :).

I would personally set up an office in the town where you live (I am doing that right now in fact). I would get a nice big sign put up on the window, a desk, chairs, ect and you are set to go :). Now this is just a little list to help you. I could go more in detail, but only if you want me to.

I guess I have a different view of a small host :). I consider 10,000 clients small...

Thanx you folks for the fast reply!

Indeed I think the best service for your costumers is very very important if you want to keep the most of your clients.

I think I can handle the administrative part of setting up the webhosting company, but is it easy to compete with in this business, while webhosting is getting more and more popular?

Bringing in costumers can be done in several ways, indeed opening an office in a city, advertising on internet, local newspaper etc. but are there other ways which can be very succesful?

thanx,

Grtz
