It is amazing how templates have made hosts look professional!

Whatever you decide make sure you fully test a company from support to sales and then make your decision!

Good luck.

May want to ask them if they are a reseller, then verify how accessible their support is and etc.

Off hand, one of the sites listed in their testimonials is hosted at Hostica.com, not them(check WHOIS of URL in testimonial). May want to ask about that ;)

That's another interesting point! :) I had a host flat out refuse to tell me where the servers were hosted. Oh please..if I *really* wanted to find out...heck...I can do that without asking them anything. It seems to me that admitting to a customer that you are a reseller, you're just starting out and you do not have enough customers to justify a dedicated box *yet*. I mean...what's the big deal in being upfront and honest with these people? I don't understand...but I'm fairly new to the side of the equation. I dunno..maybe it's just me.

Bryon... while I definitely give major kudos to hosts that don't hesitate to answer if they are a reseller, I can still *understand* why they might not want to.

http://whreviews.com/reseller-hosting2.htm has a good summary of the dilemma IMHO. The fact is that many people run away the second they say they are a reseller. Even though it's arguable that it may not be that big of a deal to worry about. So the incentive for resellers to appear and talk like a real host is big.

Even though the quality of service and diligence of a resellers operators to keep their server(s) up and running might make it an even [i]better[/] option than the actual real host, people don't see it that way. I myself have learned over time that many hosts I used in the past were actually "just" resellers. ..but I loved them :)

Thanks. It was a very big concern of mine...and I knew there had to be a reason..I just had not seen much on the topic. Thanks.
Sure enough, with the host above mentioned, I hadf no probs finding out more about their setup than I really needed..which is about the norm. Oh yes...the hostgator guy would have been better off *not* answering the phone. I don't think I need to point out the PR nightmare they have on their hands now...yeesh.
Anyways...thanks and I'll check that out.

This is an old thread and I just saw this topic.

To answer all your questions:

1. We are not a reseller. Our server is hosted with Layeredtech.Com and you can verify that and talk to Todd from Layeredtech about us.

2. First of all, we do not just put testimonials that we do not own. You can't just whois a domain by name servers at all. The name servers hostica can't delete from onlinenic with some reasons. Yes, this client is from hostica but he transfered to us already. Wanna prove it? Email hostica or email the owner of the site to see for yourself.

Hope this help :-)

When I asked, I let people know that I pay another company to manage my server. They do all the dirty work as far as upgrades and maintence goes, and this frees me up to focus on the business side of things, and provide excellant technical support. as I am a small reseller basically for my design clients and friends at this point, but I am planning to grow my hosting business.

I don't refer to it is a "reseller account" nor do I specifically say weither or not I have a dedicated machine, but I questioned about it further, I would let them know the details of it, because without outright saying so, this can lead people to beleive that you have a dedicated machine. I do not beleive in lying to customers, but you should present yourself in the best possible light.
