View Full Version : Something like hotmail.
kmurrey 02-10-2002, 12:49 AM I want to allow users to create their own email address with my domain name. Just like hotmail does.
Can I use neomail to do this? Or do I need to use webmail to do this?
Please give me suggestions to software to use and directions to set it up.

I use webmail from Neomail : simple and nice!, only need 5 minute to install (.pkg)

I'm not sure about Neomail. I guess you can only use it to log into your existing email account on a RaQ. I don't think that you will be able to create new accounts using it. But I never used Neomail so I might be wrong.
Softerweb 02-10-2002, 10:21 AM No, you can`t create/delete e-mail accounts with Neomail, but other then that it is very good.
I don`t know if there is a product out there that has the functionality you are looking for....
There are some Hotmail-like scripts, but they are damn expensive . . .

Incognito 02-10-2002, 11:22 AM Depending on volume your own web mail can become quite a management effort (I'm talking if you are going to set up thousands this way). You might want to outsource to everyone.net.

go there and look around. most of them cost a LOT though :(
joubarani 02-10-2002, 05:04 PM WebMail (http://www.webumake.com)
beglobal 02-10-2002, 06:35 PM Alias Mail can do what you are looking for, but it is not free. Tim has created some very good scripts, however support has lagged the past year or so. I think he is just overworked... take a look anyway though and see what you think...

Goldwing 02-15-2002, 05:33 PM Script claiming to do what you want of 1 pop account
www.worldwidecreations.com
I dont use it or know anything about it DYOR
Chicken 02-15-2002, 10:49 PM Goldwing, hmmm, not sure why that URL isn't banned. We had a bit of a spamming problem here with that one (to put it very mildly). The threads are in a restricted area, but needless to say, Chris is one of the most unprofessional individuals I've run across.
allie 02-15-2002, 11:55 PM There are many resources that would allow you to do just that. As Incognito has mentioned, www.everyone.net offers a service like that, as does www.bigmailbox.com (Personally, I prefer BMB :\) From what I read and see, SquirrelMail ( www.squirrelmail.org ) is also good :D
There are probably many more that I don't know of, you just have to look around :)
allie 02-15-2002, 11:58 PM Whoa! When did www.everyone.net begin charging people for their services? *scratches head*
(Hee hee... I told you I liked www.bigmailbox.com more ;D)
kmurrey 02-16-2002, 11:38 AM Some of you are missing the point: I don't want to use those services, I want to create my own email services. I want to be able to charge people to have email.
Chicken - I was looking at getting that script. Is this something I should stay away from? You described this 'Chris' as unprofessional and the site should be banned. Can you elaborate more on that... it would be greatly appreciated.

Gurudev 02-17-2002, 11:17 PM I have looked for this myself. I have not found any free solutions that provide all features, especailly with a spell checker. With regards to paid options, I like 1. Gossamer-mail (very expensive for small sites but a good product), 2. Webumake mail 3.epostoffice (good interface but lacks a number of features such as spell check and POP checking from othe accounts).
If you find a good one let me know.
Try TWIG: http://twig.screwdriver.net/
Free, highly customizable.... I like it.
Gurudev 02-18-2002, 09:31 PM Yes, looks good but it is IMAP only - most servers have POP.
StarGate 02-18-2002, 10:26 PM ... is VisualMail. Especialy the SQL version... BUT ...$$$ :(
Yes, I know..... my server has POP too.... just install IMAP and it'll work like a charm....
