So customers hosting on our RAQ4i tend to want to click POP3 because somehow they think that's better. But then the ones who are also using any form of Outlook soon find out they can't connect with their email at the RAQ unless they de-select POP3. I actually had some guy go to another host saying stuff like, "My Outlook program uses nothin but POP3. I ALWAYS use POP3. How come I can't use POP3 wit you???"

I tried to tell him Outlook is not a true POP3 client, but then of course it seemed like I was arguing with Microsoft and somehow that did not jive with him.

Anyone know what the true differenece is, on a RAQ4I between POP and POP3, and what the thing is with Outlook not working when an account is set in POP3?

Your story makes absolutly no sense to me, but that could also be due because there is yet another gap in my knowledge.

Raqs work with either the POP3, APOP or IMAP protocol. I use the POP3 myself as do 99% of the users.

Do you by any chance activate the APOP (secure pop) option when setting up an account?
If you do... don't because apop will not work with pop3 mailreaders (outlook). If you don't... set up a detailed instruction page for your clients where they can see how they can set up a new mail account in outlook.

I don't think that APOP will work using Outlook (or at least not using Outlook Express).

But as Pilgrim said POP3 should work fine.

On the RAQ, this stuff is listed as POP3(APOP) as if both are one and the same. This is getting confusing.

It's listed as "secure POP3 (APOP)" isn't it?

If that's what you mean it will not work using Outlook.

Just uncheck APOP if you want to use "normal" POP3 with Outlook.
