View Full Version : Should iNET have a business related community?

I've been around WHT and other iNET properties for a while now and I realised that most of the members on the forums don't even know the basics of runing a web related business.

Many of them don't even know the ethics of business, commonly known as "business ethiquete".

I strongly believe that there should be a forum/community on business topics, as I'm sure there will be quite some interest in this.

People such as myself teach similar things for a living, but I'm positive that most of the web business owners can't afford to pay someone to help them out, so the best option for them is to seek advice on the web.

I definitely think that such an option if a fesible one.

What do you think?

They would have my full support in that venture.

Great Idea Lorand!!!

Eugene,

it's not only about running a webhosting business, but an online business altogether ;)

But thanks for paying attention

I see Eugene's point. This is, after all, a web hosting community, so he did point to the right forum in his post.

However, I agree with you, Lorand. There should be a new forum. But I think it should be labelled "Business morals and Ethics". So often there appears to be a scant short supply around these parts...

Perhaps I should quote you more often:

But I guess I was wrong at reading your mind, I know I didnt misread the post.

Running a Web Hosting Business - Topics include management, accounting, problem customers, taxes, support options etc.

You also have the E-Commerce Discussion forum.

Thank you for supporting this vito.

Maybe with enough interest, the wheels will start moving. But the final decision belongs to iNET.

Who knows, it might get some "offline" interest as well :)

Eugene, you're right. My mind was going beyond the "running a web hosting business" "e-commerce discussion" forum.

Sorry for that.

Sounds like a great idea, Web Hosting was my first venture besides a small local pc reapir service and there is always something to learn even if you think you already know it all ;)

Me thinks this should be moved to the right forum (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=31) in order to get the attention it deserves.

Perhaps you're right vito, but it won't get as much attention as in here.

I guess the best thing for now is to get some feedback, negative or positive. Nothing beats the lounge :)

Anyway, it's up to the mods on this one.

(Lorand is much smarter than Vito. Lorand realizes that a thread in the Lounge gets %% more exposure. Vito is ashamed. Lorand for President) :D

If I wouldn't have known you a bit, I would've thought you were sarcastic. Are you? :)

:)

Anyway, back on track, I see the thread is getting some attention.

Maybe many of us thought of this but didn't voice it out.

I don't think business really ties in with WHT--overall, WHT seems more geared for technology.

I think a better idea would be for iNet to either start or acquire a business forum.

Exactly Dan, that's what I was trying to get to. WHT already has it's business related subforums, but they cover only a fraction of the issues.

Why can't those issues be posted into the "Running a Web Hosting Business" forum?

Seems the perfect spot for them.

It is the right spot, if you're discussing hosting related "businesses".

Somehow I don't see a thread about business ethics (general ones), going into that section. Or maybe it's just me.

Anyhow, it was only a thought.

I think they have most material related to running an online business covered on each of their network sites.

Personally, I voted no, and here's why:

inet can barely handle responses to emails and helpdesk questions as it is. Until they obtain more support methods, I personally don't think they should be trying to obtain any more (or creating any more) forums or the like.

I'm all for growth, but at some point, you have to realize that you need to ballance growth with support. Given the fact that iNet has been terribly slow in responses (days, weeks, if we even get them), then yes, it's time for iNet to recruit more staff. If they can't do this, then customer service will be constantly known as poor and shoddy. Hell, I've got a "helpdesk" ticket that's been in (through their system, not wht) for over a week, still no response on it. I'm pretty sure I KNOW the response, but it's quite disrespectful to ignore the requests of paying customers.

Interesting issue there linux-tech.

I won't make any statements about this, but it's clear that you're right.

Maybe more pseudo-volunteers could help out? This reminds me of a thread in which WHT members wanted to buy 49% of the board and administer it. That would solve the staff problem, don't you think? :)

Now, on topic, I guess that by having such a biz related forum, they could capture the attention of other targets as well. It would be a nice move.
