Folks,

We are considering to implement FreeBSD Jail to offer Virtual Private server hosting solutions. I am just wondering if there is someone who already did it and can provide a feedback?

FreeVSD is also an alternative, but we will offer only WWW service so there is no need for other jailed extras it offers.

We need a stable and reliable solution and I think FreeBSD jail environment is the best way to go.

Thanks - your feedback is appreciated.

Apollo.

If you have the means and resources and knowledge to do this, you should. Also, in regards to jailing other things, consider this still -- it's important. If you do web hosting and offer anything other than static web pages with no CGI or PHP, etc., then you will want to take that further step. I.e., you don't have to allow shell access for people to get shell or execute shell commands, etc. Definitely, if done right, this can be a plus, just be sure you do it right.

Thanks for your feedback. We look forward to offer php and perl/unix shell cgi/script feature. No telnet/SSH, MySql (we will have dedicated server for MySQL). Just simple and reliable WWW service our business clients can depend on ;)

And for security we want to go with Jailed environment - users will be NOT able to browse other client files via ftp or even smarter - using own php/cgi script.

thanks
