Has anyone tried to use VMWare as a virtual dedicated server solution? It seems like it is possible. I was thinking if it is possible to use it to sell virtual dedicated servers out of it.

RAM RAM RAM!!!! ckpeter 02-09-2002, 12:46 PM I have done some research on VMWare. It is a great solution that gives you the ultimate hardware virtualization. However, it is also very expensive. If you are planning to use VMWare to sell cheap VDS, that won't work. Their workstation version is cheap enough, but requires a GUI; while the server version is so expensive, you can't sell any cheap VDS. I think the real value of VMWare is in high end VDS, where the flexibility of dynamic hardware for a VDS is more important than the cost factor. You can "switch on" higher ram or CPU usage easily. However, the entry level server version cost at least a couple thousand dollars. Peter |
