Hi

I've got a Raq4 which i need to clear down /var as it's at 100%

I have the admin password but not the root password.

The person who looks after this box is on holiday (and has probably forgt it anyway!).

Is there anyway i can gain root access, i'm used to just going into single user mode on HPUX servers, can i do that on this?

If i remember correctly RaQs do have a little "button" on the front case for resetting the password(s). If you push it the admin (and root?) password will be resetted to default values. The procedure should be described in your manual.

Nope, it resets the admin passwd ok but it aint resetting the root passwd.

Looks like it may have to be a os restore.

You can hack your own RAQ to reset it .... Theres a tool on the web ... Cant remember were you do have to be local to the RAQ for it to work though.

The root password is normaly the same as your admin password isn't it?

When I push someting in the little hole on the front of my RaQ (next to the display) and I go to the main IP address /admin than you can change the password...

Nope the password reset button is NOT resetting the root password.

This reply might be a little late, but if you go into the Cobalt web GUI and change the admin password from there, it will set both the admin and root password to the new password.

Yesterday I've tested the password recovery on an test RaQ 3 (installed as RaQ 4). I've pussed the reset button and opened the admin page (domain.ltd/admin) with the username admin and leaving the password field empty. I've changed the password and it was also changed voor my root access

The next way is with another PC, a Null Modem Cable and a terminal software. login as a single user vis the ROM and then try to chnage the root password from there.
