View Full Version : My Paypal story
Bannaz 12-06-2004, 10:37 AM I have had a paypal account for over 3 years now, with more than the average amount of money going through it each month.
In October, I received an e-mail from Paypal telling me that my account had be limited due to another account with "issues" being linked to my account. Which apparently means I have two accounts, and the other account has verification problems.
Now, I have NEVER registered another Paypal account before, and they won't tell me the name of the other account for me to try and track the person down. I have had phone call and phone call with the company and they keep telling me the same thing "Until the issues are resolved with the other account, your account will not be restored back to normal use".
I have told them time and time again that this is the only account I have but they keep telling me the same thing.
I only have a few hundred left in the account, but I am now left with only one alternative which is to forget about Paypal. They have such great features, but this system leaves much to be desired! All I want to do is continue business as normal and they have created such a catch 22 problem for themeselves and myself. I am sure there are similar situations going on all the time...why can't they sort something like this out?
I have always been a staunch supporter of PP. I have always been of the belief that when I read a PP horror story, chances are the thread starter was not telling the whole story, and was responsible for account suspension - being underage or breaking some other TOS.
But as time goes on, I run across stories wherein upstanding people are falling through the cracks and being unfairly treated. Your case sounds like one of them.
Shame, really. PP is a great system, but it certainly has its shortfalls. Good luck in getting resolution, Scenes.

sololo 12-07-2004, 12:22 PM Surely PP is a great service but such problem could render them obsolete. For every one unfairly treated customer, PP looses more. Check before the elevator reaches basement.
NOteasy 12-07-2004, 10:59 PM I was a PP cheerleader too until they struck me, close to 5 years. I loved the way everything worked right, until a client claimed "unauthorized credit card use" and PP pulled $540 out of my account for the chargeback. There was no question as to whether the client ordered or received the merchandise, I had proof of shipping. What they used to do me in was they give you a choice of accepting liability, faxing them your proof or proving a refund. I chose to fax the proof..haha the number they gave me never answered, I spent 3 days and night trying to fax them my proof. I even phoned and they gave me a different fax number which also never answered. That was the second fraudulent chargeback in 6 months, so I am out about $1500, 3 custom made game tables (with their names on them) and my business. Get out when you can.
lisa@myweb 12-08-2004, 02:52 AM I have been using paypal for over 5 years and have it checked in my preferences that users with a checking account on file cannot use a credit card. Also, whenever a customer uses paypal I have them sign an authorization form that states the terms of the sale and refund policy. If a chargeback does arise I send this documentation to paypal because without it they can’t fight the chargeback for you. Works like a charm.
In your case I would contact a local lawyer and have them give paypal a call describing our problem, maybe they will listen.
WHSolutions 12-08-2004, 04:12 AM I had the same thing happen to me. It only happened because someone did a chargeback, and my credit card had no money on it. So they said the account had been limited until I confirmed the credit card. I wasn't having a bar of it, so I called them up and had a go at them.
Next thing I know, my whole account is under investigation and I have to send them 10 forms of ID including all this crap I've never heard of and bills and such. So I rang them up again and went physcho, heh, I was kinda asking to get my account permanently suspended, which is exactly what happened.
Now they tell me i cant get the account back, nor can I use the same card on paypal ever again.
I dislike paypal very much, but it's so commonly accepted, that not having it can be quite an annoyance.
lisa@myweb 12-09-2004, 12:17 AM I know what you mean about all the documentation they ask but if you give it to them it does help. Paypal is so common these days because it gives users a false since of security so as a merchant it is hard not to accept it.
Philified 12-09-2004, 12:01 PM Ive heard stories, but I was never sure what to think. You sound legit though... it makes me want to be more careful with them.
Bannaz 12-12-2004, 02:47 PM It seems as if you can be as careful as you want with Paypal...but if something goes accidently wrong, they won't help you one bit. Their easiest and obviously cheapest method is just to ban the person from using Paypal. Ridiculous way of doing business. But they can afford to. Pigs.
designstudio80 12-13-2004, 12:12 AM paypal is such a big company, they afford to lost customer
kelvinklay 12-13-2004, 12:37 AM i was searching for paypal comments on yahoo and found paypalsucks.com and after reading there comments and voice conversation i was shocked with the payl pal service, however paypal doesnt support many countries like ikobo does.
