I want to get a dedicated server for my existing domain which is currently being hosting at a shared server. Being a newbie, I would like to have some time to play with the new box before going live. When I signup, I know I need to give a domain name. Can I hold back on pointing my domain to the new box? Can I setup my site at the new box and test it out for a period of time before moving the domain? If yes, do I just test it using the IP address? Thanks!

Yeah, since you get unique ip`s with that server you should`nt have any problems. Use the main ip until you choose to move your domain.
