Hello,

I have had alot fraud purchases when we still used 2CO.

We stopped using this and currently use other payment gateways and since then there was little to no fraud.

2CO really sucks IMO, but thats just me :)

Just now we recieved an order for hosting for $300 annually.

However, the ip of the order traces back to the UK, but the client details are in the US.

Also the email he paid with (paypal) was different from the email used in the client details. This email in the client details looks asian it was something like love324362463987@yahoo.co.uk.

I have emailed both and got a confirmation from love324362463987@yahoo.co.uk that it was a real order. I did not trust it so i gave the number in the client details a call but i got ring no answer.

What do you think i should do in this matter? The account was not created as we want to make sure its no fraud.

Go with your gut feelings. If it feels like fraud with you - more than likely it is. Since you received no answer - changces are it is fraud.

I agree with Corey 100% on this. If it feels odd, it's probably for a reason. If you can't contact them by phone, don't process the order.

We just had one today fail two phone verifications but continues to email us saying he's posting negative info about us for not accepting the order. You have to protect your interests as well.

Good luck to you.

Yep... more than likely it is fraud.

Also just like Bliksem mentioned - fraudsters will sometimes try to pretend to be very upset and threaten all kinds of stuff... ignore them - the best con artists on the ones that seem the most legit sometimes.

Things like phone verifications and issuing bank checks are more reliable than someone's "promise" over e-mail that they are "the real deal."

Definitely cancel it. You seem reluctant (since you are here). I could not have said it better myself.

Ley did say that the payment was made over paypal. hence, Ley will not have access to the buyer's cc details.

A good thing about the payment through paypal is that you won't be hit with charge back fees if they do occur.

They would remove the funds from your PayPal account and put them into the clients account. We had this happen once.

One look at the e-mail address screamed fraud to me. If you ever have any doubts about the authenticity of a sale, don't process it. It will save you heartache down the road.

I gave the chap a call again, he lives in the US, but is in the UK for business or something. He gave me his UK mobile number.

I have emailed the owner of the block to check who the owner of the IP is he registered with.

Maybe you'll be able to sort this out after all. It pays to be persistent.

paypal replied to me now :)

they withdrew the funds from my account as it *could* be fraud.

They want to investigate now first, cool with me.

I have suspended the account until resolved.

We get a fraud order once a day at least.  I have learned that my gut is usually right.  If there is something about the order that doesnt seem right, chances are it is fraud.  I would ask the customer to give me a # which I can definately find him at.  If they have paid with a credit card, I would ask for a copy of the card and photo id to be faxed or emailed over to you.

I would say this is a fraud order, suspend the account and contact paypal. I have to say I 'hate' these people who use fake credit accounts. No idea why they want to do that. Causes alot of problems for everyone.

I use to run shell hsoting along with my webhsoting services nd would get orders in the range of 120 dollars up some reaching the thousands for shells I think on a average of 20 orders a day out of those 20 usally no more then 2 of them where real. I got so tired of paypal refunding them the money and trying to verify each I added to the checkout process that any order over 25.00 will have a index card sent to the user with the user accoutn information order number and so on via certified mail. This gave me a shipping number for paypal to use to help me keep the funds. It also decrease my fraudalent orders by 87% maybe more. I figure the 3.00 or so I used to send the mail was worth it in the long run.

Just remember that if you get a copy of the credit card (front and back, I assume?) you cannot keep the copy of the back on file. It must be destroyed because it has the 3 digit verification code on it.

We are a start-up and have already had what we think is a fraud sale, so we cancelled the credit card charge and are watching it. We haven't heard a response from the client. It's frustrating. I didn't think fraud would be so prevalent in ordering web hosting.
