Hello,

Has anybody had experience with http://www.aletiahosting.com/
and http://www.tera-byte.com/

My budget is about 7-10 dollars per month. Are they reliable? Any down-time problems? I am looking for a web host that has 10-20 gig transfer. Tera looks good, but can it handle the traffic.

Does anybody know any other cheap, excellent web hosts that will be around in a few years time. Also I want to buy a cheap domain name.

I have been using aletia for over 6 months. They have a lot of downtimes recently and you'll find there systems with high server loads. One of there servers ran out of disk space when most users were not running at full.

Aletia may seem good...they were good. But support periods take forever...sometimes 2+ days for simple problems. Some do not get answered and others quickly.

This is sooo typical. What the heck is going on with these companies?

You would think that a group of fed up customers would start their own hosting company. I think most shared hosting prices are too low. My freakin local phone service cost almost $30! How can a hosting company charge $10??? THAT is why support sux in my opinion.

i used aletia for a little while, and they're not very good. they terminated my site because i said i didn't like them on my forum. after i was terminated, i wanted to get the password for the domain i registered through them, and i posted on their message board, and they continued to delete the threads because they were negative. after about 3 days i finally got things straightened out.

Yep I agree about the cheap hosting. Bandwidth from cheap companies (cough Cogent) is the main cause of a majority of downtimes. Then there's the over usage of a server's resources. I not really selling my company as much as giving an over all comparison.

Bandwidth from UUNet and AT&T are high quality bandwidth that is hardly ever down and gives great ping (I pinged mine from a UK site to my New Jersey server and got 70) while Cogent's terms of use allow for the downtime without refunds.

And of course it does amaze me how company's can sell their plans so cheaply. Whatever.

I think the biggest problem is that people must realize that the old rule quantity does not equal quality applies to the web as well.

If you get a lot and pay a little, don't expect much from it.

Misleading and inaccurate website. Same on the sales email side. So would you want your business in there hands. I think not.

What do you mean by misleading and inaccurate web site?

Can anybody compare Aletia's and Tera-Byte's web site speed internationally?

I think one of my frens forum (http://www.geek365.com) is hosted by them.

I myself is not very sure of the downtime or uptime.

Yikes! What a reason to shut down someone's account. Are you sure that was the reason?

I say I don't like them all the time, both on my forum and theirs. :) My account isn't deactivated. Yes, they used to be really good, but they're pretty bad now, and getting progressively worse by the day. :(

I think tera-byte is a great host, althought they don't super server or machine. The reason is they have a very low price and still keep their good reputation consistently. Look at aletiahosting, hostrocket, and other, they started very good, if not great, then getting praises as well as complaints due to overwhelming users signing up --> can't handle support as fast as they used to be.

So, tera-byte, IMO, has always been an excellent host. The only reason they are not *really* popular, just guessing, is because they are not based in the U.S and most of people, including me, like cpanel better,
