View Full Version : HostOnce
cymru4me 02-07-2002, 11:44 PM Before I say anything in great detail about my current problem with HostOnce, can anyone give me some advice or information as to how to contact them? I have gotten only auto-responses from them and have had problems since I opened the account on 2-1. Currently their Technical Support Center, such as it is, has been down for two days with no fix indicated in the near future. Before it went down, I posted five requests for help over a period of 3 days, but none of them was answered, either. I'm at my wits end as to how to contact them to give them a chance to solve the problem before I pack up and move on.
21inchguns 02-07-2002, 11:58 PM it seems everyone is having trouble contacting their hosts...hmmmmm....
and there is nothing more annoying than auto responders...
you'll probably have to call em, but if no one is home i would recommend that you move, unless of course they give good hosting...
Asianguy 02-08-2002, 12:19 AM callin this company is pretty hard, but their trouble ticket thing seems to be goin, request moving and cancelation, if things get really bad.
if you registered a domain with them, well from what i experiance and what people say, ya got a long road, but then again i was too cheap i got what i paid for :( (now happy with another server)
goodtimez 02-08-2002, 01:52 AM If you have a personal site with not too much traffic and you are willing to wait between 4-20 days for a reply or for them to sort out their technical problems (which occur from time to time), then hostonce is alright. I have one such site hosted with them (more than 200megs in size but not much traffic, mostly family photographs) and I do not have very much to complain considering the price that I am paying. I have even installed a forum successfully without running into any difficulties. :D
mdrussell 02-08-2002, 03:54 AM For someone who is a reseller of FastHosts, HostOnce's advertising budget has always astounded me...
cymru4me 02-08-2002, 10:40 AM So far, the biggest problem that I am having with HostOnce is that I can't retrieve the email from my domain. I followed their instructions, double- and triple-checked my Outlook settings, and still no mail. I finally put the mail to forward, which it did for two days, but now even that has stopped working. I've been trying since 2-1 to get an answer from them on how to fix the problem, but all emails get only auto responses and the service call ticket program has been down for 3 days as of today. Anyone have a similar problem that is now fixed and can tell me how to correct it on my site?
avara 02-08-2002, 12:36 PM Unlimited web space and unlimited bandwidth for $4.95 says it all...
I really don't understand anyone going for plans like this, as there are plenty of honest web hosts offering generous bandwidth and disk space allocations for under $10 a month (and most importantly, great support).
cymru4me 02-08-2002, 12:45 PM Unlimited bandwidth was not what convinced me to go with HostOnce, as I only recently understood what that was all about and know that it will not be a problem for me. What got my attention were the facts that they have been in business since 1997 (I wouldn't have to worry about them packing up and disappearing into the night on me) and their promise that I would not have to search for another host ever again.

Wes337 02-08-2002, 04:03 PM Host Once IS a gimmick. Close your account there. I have heard other complaints too.

that is total b.s,
a whois search says that it was registered on 08-Jun-2001:
Record last updated on 04-Feb-2002.
Record expires on 08-Jun-2002.
Record created on 08-Jun-2001.
There ya go...
Asianguy 02-08-2002, 08:28 PM haha, i didn't see that lol, oh well i learned my lesson anyways =), not paying 20 per month (12 gb bandwidth and 2gb space) oh well i'm still way under both of these anyways hehe ;)
web docta 02-09-2002, 11:20 PM Hostonce is a nightmare! Unlimited bandwidth, right!....that company's going to be there tomorrow. It's like the old saying goes. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. I tried them for 3 weeks and finally got out. They were terrible.
allmark 02-10-2002, 03:48 AM Lessons: Home Room Hosting 101
#1 Unlimited bandwidth = BAD
#2 $3-$4 range host plan with all the goodies and then some = BAD
#3 3 day wait for reply to email = Real BAD
Anything over 24 hours should raise the hair on the back of yo neck.
A new company might be able to offer you the world for ( 2 to 4 months ) a period of time. Then the accounts using all the resources catch up with them and everything heads down hill like a snow ball headed for ...... ummm well you get the idea, it's hot down there.....
Asher S 02-10-2002, 04:41 AM Their name says it all, you just Host Once with them ;)

ROFLOL
:D :D :D
ningaming 02-10-2002, 01:08 PM whois information is not alway reliable to "how long the domain has been used"
i know a few sites i play around with whois information for dates are way off.
as for hostonce, i believe their company is a rip off, I emailed them a few times and said
"it says I can have unlimited emails. Would you allow me to create 5,600 emails for my school?"
"no that would destroy the server"
"It says unlimited"
"Unlimited until you start killing the server"
:stickout
Ok I found this forum about 30 minutes agoand since then I rang my bank to stop them issuing a check to them for Hosting. After reading the posts it confirmed my suspisions as to their business practices inthat in todays world of emails I expect prompt answers.
I had ordered a site last week and Indicated I would send a cheque. They acknowleged order Monday morning. Today I wanted to ask quick question as Mondays email had their posting address I tried all our local telephone directories(so unless I missed something) could find them. Used on line directories with same results.
Used Whois for the phone number none answer(tried all afternoon) sent 2 more emails and short of driving over to their place of business(30 min drive) FRANKLY i decided its not worth the effort.
Im glad I found this site. We all work too hard for our money to waste it. I'll do better research next time
Applogies for bad grammer in my last post. I was so annoyed I didn't tke the time to edit.:(
cdnav8r 04-09-2002, 04:31 AM I used to be with them (for about a month).....expect to file a support ticket for everything. Also, I think you can reach them at sales@hostonce.com or org (I don't remember).
I managed to get a full refund (minus domain which is my ownership still and the one month of hosting). All I wanted was a lot of webspace, not even bandwidth.....but I got into nothing but frustration. Luckily I was allowed the refund (probably cause they were happy to rid themselves of all my support tix) :D
Vainlaser 04-09-2002, 02:26 PM I got a unix host from them on site was a gamin cmmuity..I had problem the 1st day my upload speed was max 4 kb and it would drop to .11 it took me 43 mins to upload a 1 meg file..they said their tech was upgrading the server Ok I thought it would be fixed well I had my site for 30 days I sent complaints all but 2 days out of the 30 days people sent me emails because my site would take 20 to 60 sec to load most the time my site was under 40 kb should take 2 to 3 seconds to load the only thing I could get from them is their was upgrading...The email would not work it would time out ...Last saturday april the 7th my site went down
I could not login to the control panel nothing worked it took them 3 days to anwser me and this is what I got from them

Your account will NOT be re-enabled and you will NOT received a refund.
It helps if the person using the subdomain doesn't contact us ;-)

this is what they done I asked for a subdomain 2 weeks earlyer they made it I tried to upload to it but it did not work so I went to the help desk and made a new account with the subdomain user name they gave me and I sent a message to them telling them that the subdomain did not work..it took them 5 days to fix it ..I never even used the subdomain becase I was still working on my main domain.. this happen because I made a different account and contacted the tech support about the problem with the subdomain...All they had to do is look at the IP's and they would have seen that both was the same ...But they didn't they just closed my account and keep my money....I really think what they do is if you complaint about their service they will close your account that is easyier than fixing the problem.
Here is a something New to add
I can still use my ftp to login in to what was my domain it looks like HostOnce has giving my domain to somone else...there is a new web site on the ftp server and I did not up load it...
They never changed over the domain to me like they said they would..So it looks like if you pick out a domain for them to register for you they keep it to sell to someone else...
Here a kick
I did a little checkin and they setup another guys account that was setup yesterday the same login and the same ftp server password that I have...and he stuff is been uploaded to my ftp server how in the hell can they screw up like this....I lost my account because of their screw up
