I have used them before, came accross them last year, they must be reasonably good because they are running some good sites on there systems. I was looking for free services and found them. They have a lot to offer. Not sure about there actual prices though. http://www.portland.co.uk/price_list.esp .Esp ?

I ATTEMPTED to use them for my site, however I never received my username and password until - oh about 3 months later. I think I signed up in October, and I just received my info. last month, so I'd be a little weary of them. Their paid services may be better then thier free services.

Never had any problems like that, there was something strange though.

like :

Why doesn't the FTP server let me in?

If you know that your login (username) and password are correct, but the FTP server
does not allow a connection, then it is quite likely it already has the maximum number of
connections in use. There is a relatively low number of simultaneous connections allowed.
Try again shortly. Because of this, once you do gain access, keep your FTP sessions
short and logout as soon as you can.

Thats what I did not like about them, I am sure I heard others moaning at blocked ftp, not good for me cause I like to hang around with ftp.

I used Portland for a couple of years and was VERY happy. They had problems from time to time, but hey - they're free. The only reason I left them was I got my own dedicated server and I transferred all my sites to it.

If your site it critical, you should probably pay for hosting. But Portland provides an excellent opportunity for someone on a shoe-string budget.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

very good for starting out with to build a user base. when i was with them i toted up over 1000 users, but because the uptime was so poor you spent your life answering support requests.
