Only ports 80 & 443 open?

Em....nothing then, free ;) Seriously though...its a bit restricting!

What use would a server be if it cant handle POP, DNS, SMTP or anything else which runs on a different port?!

Oh..and SQL isnt going to work if only ports 80 & 443 are open as it runs on port 1433.......

Can you get a different config on the firewall?

Let's say we work out the port issues......what would you think it should cost?

What exactly are you trying to price out?

The hardware?

The bandwidth (90% of a T1 + backup links)? Huh?

The firewall? The firewall operations/management?

Checkpoint Firewall-1 is almost never used by ISP's, it is used by corporations who love to spend money!

This almost sounds like a "managed environment" quote.

Any REAL cost is going to be the 99.5% figure - what are the consequences of failure? Just a refund of hosting fees, or lost customer / fines / etc.?

This is for a webserver for a company. The Server hardware and software will be supplied by the company contracting services.

The provider will provide all the rest. The checkpoint firewall is already there, the customer will be positioned behind it.

I agree the 99.5% is not the best so the penitalies would have to be rather high but it is not expected that they would exceed the cost of the dedicated hosting?

My guestimate: $2000.00 per month + install cutting corners.

„h Dedicated Rack-Mounted Server = Colo - $300.00
„h 90% dedicated T1 line - $800.00
„h Backup T1 capacity to T3/DS3 capable (impossible to do T3) - $500.00 for dark T-1.
„h 99.5%+ multiple line connectivity ???
„h CheckPoint Firewall-1 security, DMZ
„h Shared SQL Server 2000, 100MB - $300.00
„h Available ports: 80 (HTTP), 443 (SSL). All others closed.
„h Norton AntiVirus software - (your cost)
„h 24 hour monitoring (included in colo)
„h Daily data backup (included unless part of NAS)
„h Log reporting (customer provided)

I would recommend a different solution.

90% dedicated T1 line - $800.00

So, i get ~1.4Mbps of bandwidth? There's not too much you can host on a 1.4Mbps line.

This is for a midsize company website.....

1) Is the client missing anything or should they be looking at a different option. Is the backup T1 really necessary? especially at 500.00 a month.

2) What do you feel would be a highly reliable offering? or should a I say who do you think has a highly reliable cost effective offering?

Thanks,

Kevin
