I had multiple people confirm this so it was not a routing issue heh mdrussell 02-07-2002, 02:08 PM It was down for more than 10 minutes  www2 was down too. I so to speak switched monitor - watched TV instead :) umair 02-07-2002, 02:29 PM I've been trying to access WHT and it wasn't available. I think the downtime was more than 10 mins or so. dektong 02-07-2002, 02:32 PM Originally posted by voxtreme-matt It was down for more than 10 minutes  www2 was down too. the problem was with the database, I believe ... Not sure, but I could get into www and www2 fine (though both were slower), but when I tried to click on the "View New Topics" or login or whatever, that's when the problem really started ... And again, since www2 does not have its own redundant db (need to connect to www), www2 was also affected ... Another reason why Matt should start thinking of using redundant solutions (load balancing and mysql replication), well ... since WHT already has 2 servers .... :) cheers, DanielJarrett 02-08-2002, 02:09 PM I don't really see the point of www2 if it uses the same database, since if www is down, then the db will be down, won't it? Chicken 02-08-2002, 11:15 PM Ok, one last time, as this has been discussed before... The point is that a user might not be able to connect to this server (via the routes that go from them to this actual server). They may be able to connect better to the other server (which connects to this server for the db). It is not a fully redundant solution, rather just an alternative path to the same place. In other words, there are two roads leading to the same place. You take the road that works best for you. |
