View Full Version : McHost or DonHost ? Choose it!
sevgilimol 02-07-2002, 11:46 AM hello,
i read the messages. i think there are " 2 good reseller company ". McHost & DonHost..
well...Please don't write anything bad here. only choose. And write your opinions here.
McHost or DonHost?
or any other reseller?
Regards.
ASPCode.net 02-07-2002, 11:54 AM Hrmm, are you serious. AFAIK the discussion usually is McHost or Splashhost...Where did you find ( on this forum ) anything suggesting DonHost should be a good reseller?
acidHL 02-07-2002, 12:09 PM Im currently a customer of MCHost, and an ex Customer of DonHost.
DonHost is quite possibly the worst hosting Co. I have ever dealt with, where as MCHost are the complete opposite!
Alan - Vox 02-07-2002, 12:31 PM McHost are definately better than Don Host from what i have heard
AL-Benjamin 02-08-2002, 05:35 PM i've used all three of them
donhost = shockingly bad
splashhost = very good and alan is never far from reach if you need him
mchost = very good indeed
avara 02-08-2002, 09:08 PM Stay away from Donhost at all cost.
iMaster20 02-08-2002, 09:10 PM Do not use Donhost
UneedSpace 02-08-2002, 10:29 PM Hi...
If its a choice between DonHost and MCHost, stay clear of THE DON!
I know you said not to write bad but, your decision is important, so I have to say that they are restrictive, lousy obnoxious support with BAD attitude.
I would go for MC anyday if I had that choice but you should also consider Splashhost.com which would make you ask a new choice... MC or Splash.
Both are exceptional, and whilst Alan is having a few problems at the moment these will be resolved very soon, you would be wise to think Splashhost or MC. I have both and both are exceptional!
Unlimited space is a powerful tempter to the unwise and whilst Donhost could probably give you that..... you would suffer in other areas! Just my two penneth!
montini 02-08-2002, 11:42 PM Mchost or Donhost?

AL-Benjamin 02-09-2002, 11:06 AM still amazes me that people ask that question
BeCoMe1 02-09-2002, 06:09 PM DonHost not good.
Mchost very good but there are much cheaper resellers.

I belive the "you get what you pay for" saying is needed here.
Paying the extra for MChost will indeed get you better support (from what ive heard from current customers of them- and hte support is top!)
Donhost, we used them to start with, they were OK for us, didnt turn bad it seems until after we left.
Craig.

mchost = $35
Donhost = $50 (£35)
Mchost = excellant support (to the point of being fanatical), excellant uptime. Invotive service with new features introduced continuously.
donhost = brilliant response times provided you ask within 0900 - 1700 gmt, even then what they respond with is generally rude and unhelpful. highly resrtictive on scripts and what you put on their servers to the point of being ludicrous. with them it is a case of jump before your're pushed.
so i don't understand what paying extra to donhost got you craig, but i certainly didn't get it.
as i said before i would use either splashhost or mchost until you can afford a ded server.:)
BilmemKim 02-09-2002, 08:05 PM Stay away from Donhost!!!!
We have been with them for the last 6 months, and now we are looking for another company.
Don't believe what they are saying on their site, that they are offering unlimited space etc. If you start using some space or bandwith they just delete the account, so they send you a notification that they have deleted one of your customers account ...
Recently one of our customer, who sells software, had uploaded some trial/demos on their site, and in the next hour their site was gone. I have received an email from Donhost telling us that the site contained illegal downloads which violate their terms of business. But believe me, their terms of business does not mention anything about hosting trial software, it says that they do not host warez, adult or illegal MP3 material. (the amount of space used by the demo software was approx. 200MB. )
What is the point of having unlimited space if you are not alloved to use it?
Something similar happed few weeks ago, they asked us to move one of our accounts to a dedicated server because the site had to many hits.
So my advice is, if you care about your business and your customers : STAY AWAY FROM DONHOST!!!
A new Joke in th form of a new thread?
Mchost is famous for its professional service and donhost in the other side for its terrible service (behaviour with customers, price, support, ...)

Bayerl 02-10-2002, 09:04 PM im with donhost and quite happy, tho i would like some personal contact , ie. talk like splah host / alan offers
i dont think donhost is the worse
you guys should see hostonce.com
nearly 2 weeks no reply to support
1 month no free domain like that said
server speeds 0.20 lucky to upload my site sometimes
email server is dead since day 1
sigh :(
ToastyX 02-11-2002, 07:47 PM Porsche or Pinto? ;)
dhlsg 03-03-2002, 08:32 AM Don't donhost charge an extortionate 89 quid per month for personal name servers?.......
Again, I asked them the question, UNLIMITED disk space.... so I can host my 1000000 GB website there without a problem....
No response to that.

And that was their pre-sales pitch in my experience.

web docta 03-03-2002, 06:38 PM I don't know much about Donhost, but it sounds like they are as bad as Hostonce.:D
grandad 03-03-2002, 06:43 PM Hostonce=Donhost reseller
otherground 03-03-2002, 06:57 PM MCHost x 1,000,000,000
grafikat 03-03-2002, 10:24 PM It's usually Splash vs MC on these boards. Most folks to the point of fanatical will give you their opinions! I have no experience with Don or Splash, but
MCHost.com has treated me quite well, plus the active community gives newbies lots of help pronto
Cheers
Kat
Turboz 03-05-2002, 05:17 PM Ok, I'm currently using Donhost.
I found that they don't support Ikonboard, but generally their support has been quite reasonable (better than some hosts anyway).
My question is this:
What have you had happen with donhost, and if they are so bad, who else is better? - what does this "better" host provide, and how much does it cost?
I've seen some of you saying McHost BUT YOU SUPPLY NO URL TO THEIR SITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is this business ever easy?
grandad 03-05-2002, 05:20 PM Like ... try... um... www.mchost.com ?
Turboz 03-05-2002, 05:23 PM hehe - I suppose it's quite obvious really, but I just hate the thought of IE giving me those page not found errors...
thanks for the addy
AL-Benjamin 03-05-2002, 05:32 PM What have you had happen with donhost, and if they are so bad, who else is better?
I don't think its so much what have we had happen, as what hasn't happened to one or another of us. I would normally tell people to search on a host, but you would spend a great portion of your life reading their exploits.
Now. Who is better? MCHost certainly, Splashhost and a number of others. People have respect on this board who have earned it. Donhost haven't, and i believe have even resorted to using sudo names when posting on this board.
Anybody is realisticly better, even these people (http://5dollarhosting.com/commodore)
Turboz 03-05-2002, 05:54 PM Hehehe - that 5dollarhosting.com/commodore site was cool!
I gotta recommend that to a few people for a laugh!
AL-Benjamin 03-05-2002, 06:20 PM Hehehe - that 5dollarhosting.com/commodore site was cool!
made me chuckle inanely. Comedy on wheels, as my dad would say.
Timothy 03-05-2002, 06:21 PM Of the two, McHost by all means.
samuelbrr 03-06-2002, 07:43 AM Im a first time user of this site and was about to sign up with donhost later today until i stumbled on this thread, guess what?
im gonna ditch the don and very likely go with mchost,i was a little worried last week when i was quoted 3 different amounts from free to $80 for own nameservers,3 different quotes!
as someone who wants to make a serious effort at webhosting and support can someone tell me as im based in UK(n.ireland) are there any disadvantages having server etc in US,ill check out mchost support times etc, although one benefit is not paying VAT(extra 17.5 % tax)another side benefit for me with own hosting solution is i was badly stung with nomonthlyfees.com,i had 4 accounts with them but they doubled their yearly fee to $70 and didnt even inform me.

Wismie 03-06-2002, 03:59 PM I am currently with Donhost and although I think their support is quite fast and good, many of my accounts have been deleted (maybe with reasons, but still...) without me knowing of it. I am considering finding another host for the future.
Donhost does not accept Ikonboards, and I definitely would like to host those boards. Does McHost accept these boards?
I have a preference for UK-based hosts and/or european ones, or hosts that have 24h support
It seems there is a consensus on mchost, any other suggestion? Thanks....

It seems there is a consensus on mchost, any other suggestion? Thanks.... If the only reason you're after a UK based host is because of the server supposedly being faster (which it really isn't) or the ability to pick up the phone and talk to someone then I'd suggest you re-think your needs.
MCHost is more than adequate and after my experience with Donhost, I'd leave that one well alone.
That said, I'd also look around a bit and consider possibly splashhost or even a smaller operation that I know have UK staff www.flump.net
Good luck :)
Mchost is best
splashhost is good.
donhost is.... :(

Wismie 03-09-2002, 04:16 AM Thanks - I've seen also on this forum remarkablehosting, any feedback on them? I like the private server concept...
If I prefer a UK-based host, it more because I want a fast answer if the server is down so a 24/7 support is fine too. I had bad experiences with hosts based in the US (and I am in Europe) and not responding fast enough.
zarth 03-09-2002, 08:57 PM [McHost] Would you like fries with that?
DonHost - If I was them, I'd be changing my name!
I'm a www.cyberwings.com reseller. They have their own data centre and 24/7 support staff available on their own irc server.
If you check their prices and service against the others, I don't know why you would go anywhere else.
Wismie 03-10-2002, 05:40 AM Very nice plans indeed. And since when are you with them?
wazaa 03-13-2002, 08:59 AM Genius Hosting (http://www.genius-hosting.com/) lookz cheap and good for resellers any opinions?

Please dont go giving them ideas lol
