View Full Version : HSP Complete
Cygnostik 12-01-2004, 09:24 PM Has anyone gotten around to trying out HSP Complete? In all my forum searching on the web I'm just not seeing anything about the information I've been searching for.
I've been looking for information about using HSP Complete to set up shared services, or at least that's where I'm having trouble. It's like I must be missing something-
I can set the plans up. The plans can be ordered even. They provision alright. Making the plans IP based by default, however, is another story. Enabling the disk quotas outlined in the plans is the other big one.
I've looked all through the docs I've been able to find. Nothing about specific more granular plan control.
If anyone knows of any good docs, has any pointers... Do feel free to let me know. ;-)
So far I'm with most other people whos opinions I've read. It's nice for managing VPS maybe even dedicated plans but - forget it when it comes to shared plans.
But then again, I've rather enjoyed ensim since version 4 for shared sites.
Thanks!
carphost 12-01-2004, 09:33 PM Cygnostik,
are you using it to provision Plesk shared plans on plesk hardware nodes? or are you doing shared hosting on VPS's Hardware Nodes?
We use it, and it's very well supported by Sw-soft. It does require that you actually dig in deep and get to know every ounce of how to run a good VPS hardware node. The Plesk shared stuff is new, we are testing HSP3.X to deploy right now (still on 2.1) once we start production with some actual shared plans (not just VPS) i will be in a better position to tell you what you are doing wrong or what the product doesn't support yet.
From the VPS perspective its rock solid and works very well. If you are or have a true accountant you will have problems with the ways it does billing, but they are improving on that alot in these next two releases. (3.0 and 3.1)

Cygnostik 12-01-2004, 09:50 PM Hiya carphost. Thanks for looking in and getting back to me.
We've got plesk nodes running in a VPS, but it's still registered through hspc as a hardware node (because plesk is installed in the base os)...
So far everythings looking great aside from my shared plan nightmares. :) I've only stepped into this kinda fresh hspc environment about 15 days ago, it's really taking some getting used to.
Your assistance/insight/opinions et al, are very appriciated.
carphost 12-01-2004, 09:55 PM No problem, feel free to PM if you need any specific help

Cygnostik,
This is Oleg Shaikhatarov, the product manager for HSPcomplete.
I would like to share some information with you regarding configuration of Plesk shared hosting plans in HSPcomplete.
First of all, Plesk shared support first introduced in HSPcomplete 3.0 just less than 3 months ago, so it's quite new and it's being developed further _very_ actively (a lot of features added in HSPcomplete 3.1 that is going to be released soon -- see below).
In HSPcomplete 3.0 in addition to standard setup/recurring fees you can specify set of resources such as disk space, traffic, number of mailboxes, mailing lists, etc.
For each of these resources you can specify included value (which is given to the customer by default), maximum value and overuse rate (this means that customer will be able to buy more of this resource from included value up to maximum value through the upgrade center at the cost of overuse rate).
In HSPcomplete 3.1 we have added ability to configure permissions and services in the hosting plan. This way you can define permissions that will be given to domain user and services that will be enabled.
Additionally, you can define optional services (such as PHP, SSI, FrontPage, mod_perl, mod_python, etc) that customer can enable through upgrade center by paying setup and monthly fees.
Finally, we have added "Plesk Client" hosting plans that corresponds to creation of Client account on Plesk. This way you can sell multi-domain Plesk shared hosting (with included number of domains + optional fee for additional domains).
With the future release (HSPcomplete 3.2) it will be also possible to define list of site applications (from application vault, such as phpbb, mambo, gallery, oscommerce, etc) with ability to define applications installed by default and/or optional applications available for additional setup/monthly fees.
We are going to launch HSPcomplete 3.1 beta within next two weeks, so you will be able to download it and see how it works.
Let me know if this helps and if you have any other questions.
sidhartha 12-14-2004, 06:52 PM Thanks for the info Oleg,
Should we hold off before implementing HSPC in a shared hosting evinronment? If so when do you think this will be ready for a production shared hosting environment? Thanks.
Cygnostik 12-14-2004, 07:39 PM Indeed. Thanks a lot Oleg. Good stuff to hear. We will be applying updates as quickly as they are made available to us and really hope things work out. I am also curious though about how long you suspect we may want to hold off before implementing shared hosting via HSPC. We do at least want to be able to move our webppliance customers over and have them happy without anything missing...
Thanks again!
rkatz 12-14-2004, 09:55 PM Hmm, 2 threads, you might want to review the other one as well:
