Hi folks,

My story:

Not long ago I have signed with iseekhosts.com. They promote that they have 900 daily unique visitors. Also you can see many brand advertisers such DellHost, Catalog and others. Yes, and it is works - that makes me think that this is a real nice web hosting catalogue web site. I singed for adv. on the front page. Price is very low for such adv - just $60/mo. They have started working since September and I thought - such price due they are new and they looking for advertisers.
I was placed on the center of the front page.
Day past - no clicks!
How can it be so if they have 900 visits daily? Just if 2% will click I should get about 20 visits/daily.
I have logged to their stat page and it shows that I get about 60 clicks. My stats system has logged about 2-3 clicks. Live Person also confirms it.
I have mailed them about that issue. And in few hours I have noticed that one IP starts clicking on my Ad :) . He clicks about 20 times - that is logged with Live Person chart and Webalizer/Analog.

I want to protect all of you from them! That is why I writing you.
Thank you for your time.

Couple things

1) 2% is a relatively high CTR for hosting dirs, especially with alot of ads.

2) You get what you pay for.

This is what I got back from iseekhosts.com the other day when I inquired about advertising.

Thank you for your message.

Our website was opened September, 2001, and it is already listed in major
search engines such as Yahoo, MSN, LookSmart, and more. We also have
advertising campaigns with PPC search engines such as Overture and GoClick.
As a result, our traffic has been boasting since our grand opening. Our
site's average daily unique hits during January 2002 is 1172.

Our featured listings average click-thru rate is around 25%; showcase's
average click-thru rate is around 12.5%; and buttons & banners are around
1-8%.

Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.

I wrote him back to confirm that I could expect over 200 visitors a day for $60 a month ( the price for his featured listing). have not heard back from him

Anyone know of any hosting directories with reasonable advertising prices, that produces decent results?

I am just getting started in my business and can not afford the thousands of dollars that some of the directories charge.

FindSP.com is reasonable and generates results from my knowledge.

TopHosts.com, WebHostDir.com and HostSearch.com are the three largest directories and also the most expensive, but they create results.

A few others are:

HostRecord.com
HostChart.com

Make sure that you ask the owners/sales people for all the directories you talk to for some detailed statistics on their visitors, or at least a guarantee on traffic (don't ask for a conversion guarantee though, unless its a prepaid CPA program.)

I love sprinks traffic. I hate the service. Slow reporting, no live statistics, crappy support. But the clicks are of the highest quality. Visitors from sprinks view more pages each than from other PPC engines. I think its the guide page listings :)

Thanks for the tip on sprinks.
I have tried a couple PPC search engines but have not tried sprinks yet because they require $100 to open a account.

but I think I heard somewhere you get what you pay for ;)

Thanks for reply.

1. My ad on the center of main page. It should get even higher rate.
2. Correct. You right.
