View Full Version : Unlim BW
Global-Host 02-06-2002, 09:59 PM Alright we all know theirs no such thing as it, however wouldn't it be possible to advertise it to first customer to an oc3? My partner is thinking about getting1. He ahs a company set for 60k a month. He has 10 servers ready for it. Rackshack has 1 of those and has many severs.
appletreats 02-06-2002, 10:09 PM So you get an OC3, and advertise it to the first customer. Since they are customer one and only, they get it all mwahaha. Right? I'm confused.
If I'm right though, that is honestly the crappiest idea I have ever heard.
why not just tell your customer they get 155MBPS (or whatever your network is capable), if they are the only ones on that OC-3. If not, then break down the calculations and if you are putting 10 servers on the network, each server gets like 10-15 MBPS.
If you offer unlimited, you will get flamed and all trust lost in your company....just a fair warning...;)

Global-Host 02-06-2002, 11:00 PM True, but even 10 full servers cant full up an oc3.
Why would this be a crappy idea? He makes more with advertising for free hostign then pay hosting. Hes very sucessfull and has an office. Soon to have colo and dedicated.
appletreats 02-06-2002, 11:12 PM It's not unlimited, it's just a lot of it.

I agree with appletreats because unlimited would be that there isn't a limit and technically there is. :)
you can say unlimited all you want, but in reality, there is a limit.

I agree what jimb says, nothing is unlimited :D
Global-Host 02-07-2002, 08:54 AM True, but you can give a client more then they could ever exceed with their disk space. Also why are all their like 500mn bw people looking for like 60 gigs. Some1 has to tell them how much they need.

think of this, I want to upload Red Hat Linux OS directly from the CD, to your machine under my 2 GIG of Space account. The total file is around 1 GIG for the OS, and now I am going to advertise that anyone on WHT can download RedHat for their servers via my account with your company. Say on the first day, 800 people download the file. Thats 800 GIGs for that one day.
Things like these situations can happen, and then what do you do?

Wrong. A single server running Apache with static content only can easily serve 20Mbps or more; ftp.freesoftware.com often peaked above 100Mbps; and zeus has demonstrated systems serving over 2.5Gbps.
Rewdog 02-07-2002, 08:38 PM I'm much more impressed with a company that advertises "2 terabytes of transfer" rather than unlimited. Also, I know of some people who run game Mutator download sites that with 10 full servers could bust your oc3 to hell :) .
Unlimited is impossible, find a new word to describe your services.
