I'm thinking of starting up using a cobalt raq 4 with 512 ram...on a dual oc-48 backbone. i was wondering if a deal of say $30 for 300-400 megs space with 30 gigs transfer would a be a good idea...what do u guys think? is that idea good?

I know most people use more bandwidth than diskspace, so that is why I am wondering

so what do u guys think? it would take me about 11 accounts to pay the server bill ($325 a month)

It is often easier for a new host to get going by focusing on more low-cost plans. What I mean is, a customer willing to spend $30 a month - going for a 30 GB plan, is probably pretty thorough in his pre-sales work, so to speak. And you have no references to show him etc.

Actually I think it's a well thought out price for the size of the account. You might want to drop in a few lower plans as well with the same ethos in mind. There's no real need to oversell too highly these days (though sometimes this board makes you wonder).

Granted getting up to profit might be a grind, but you'll be happier supporting 10-15 accounts rather than 100 or so for the same level of profit. Your customers will thank you too
