Hey WHT,

I recently was going to hire a WebDesigner and told him everything that I needed and he gave me a price. Wow! When did these things get so expensive? My problem though is that when telling the designer what I need, and where so they can understand my views, this is very hard for me because I am artisic at mind, but not actually artistic. Which I am currently trying to fight as much as I can. I have been playing around Adobe Photoshop for about 2 months now, and acutally make neat logos etc.

Which is why I decided to make my first own template (my site needs one desperatly!). Now this is complety new to me, I have a couple of ideas but still need some. Now my question is, do you guys have any websites you know of, that has tips&tricks or tutorials (perfebly tutorials) on how to do webdesign in Adobe PhotoShop? I am complety new and need a professional looking site immediatly, which is why I decided to do it myself. So any websites or tips will be glady apprecited.

Thanks,

Tyler

I am complety new and need a professional looking site immediatly That condition ("completely new") and that requirement ("professional") don't generally go hand in hand, especially when the need is so imminent ("immediately"). The thing is that Web development got so expensive when it became a very skilled profession, which has been the case as long as I've known the industry.

If you're ready to start learning software like Photoshop, dig around for some tutorials to get you started. But just remember, the actual look of the site is a small component of how a site is effectively engineered. As you're learning how to manipuilate graphics, put solid effort into learning the coding end of things. Learn to code to standards - browsers are being made to standards better with every release, and it is more important than ever that developers understand them and adhere to them as best as possible. And that's just the baseline. Coding to standards efficiently and using the proper methods for whatever tasks you're trying to accomplish are key. I think you'll soon discover how the price for development got to where it is...

...but I certainly applaud anyone willing to learn the profession. Bast of luck to you, and be sure to ask a lot of questions along the way!

Thanks for the help guys and encoruagement. However, those tutorials are so simple and are just aimed at Photoshop in general. I am needing tutorials based on WebDesign and not just graphics and text etc. I have started...And it's not going so good lol.I had alot planned and my lack of artisic isn't catching up with me. But onforth we go!

Well there is onthing different about making a webpage in photoshop than anything else. The only added part to making a website is slicing the image up when you are done and then coding it. What do you need help doing in photoshop exactly?

I have choosen black and red as the colors, I am still spicing things up. The hardest part was the beginning. I have a great idea now, and hopefully all of you can help me when I am finished. However, what is your guys favorite free font? I hate the beginning font.

Depending on the type of website you want, thats the color scheme you use. Red and black are killer colors in my humble opinion, but your customers most likely don't think so. Black and red don't look very professional and 'happy' if you will. That's why most hosting templates are done in blue/white/greey/green/ etc... Now this isn't to say that black and red will kill your design, but it all needs to flow well with your domain name. A black and red site will definatley stand out more in your mind than a run of the mill white and blue site will, but you have to think about if it will make customers feel you are unprofessional or not.

What I do before I make a site is start googling all sites of that type. Never stare at one sight for too long, we definatley don't need any more people being overly inspired by an existing site, but do look at how they do things. I have learned many different styling cues, color combinations, etc.. from observing other people's work, but I make sure to keep all of my designs looking like me.

If you are going to go with a font on your website for the text in the actual pages, don't use something that is custom, many users will not have it on their system and it will make the page display weird for them. If it is the text for your images, if you want to PM me your e-mail I have a zip file of a ton of free fonts that I can't e-mail over to you. Some are great, some just scare me, but most all of them do have a time and place.
