Still looking for a home for my website...this looks like it could be it! :D
I just need to know 1 thing....my website regularly pulls in 90GB bandwidth per month. This is true traffic that includes downloads of private zip files, each file being about 10MB in size downloaded 100 times per day(1GB/day), would this be ok?
alchiba 02-06-2002, 10:07 PM I once had my head examined. The doctors found nothing. :D
ckpeter 02-06-2002, 10:36 PM jimmyt, welcome to the forum.
This forum is very hostile to unlimited bandwidth/transfer offering. I suggest that you search in the forum archive to learn why the members are so enlightened on the subject.
In the meantime, I suggest you remove the unlimited feature at once.
Peter
Akash 02-06-2002, 10:47 PM Just for the record....
I'm not hostile toward a host offering unlimited bandwidth. If you've read my previous posts regarding unlimited bandwidth I'm all for it....as long as the host actually does provide it. This is why I always ask my reasonable question "is it ok to host my website that does 90GB/mo on your servers" If they answer no then we have proven that they have falsely advertised a feature(makes me mad)
I'm hostile towards hosts that offer something (usually unlimited) and then cancel an account becuase they've used too much...
I'm still waiting for jimmy's reply to my question
alchiba 02-06-2002, 11:45 PM Could you throw in Oracle too? I'd be willing to pay an extra $5/month. No, make that $6/month!
BTW, what's a "blow"?
ckpeter 02-06-2002, 11:50 PM Go easy on the guy, will you? He is only a newbie.

Hey, I've still got bruises dating back years ago from this board. Believe me, he'll get over it and he'll be better for it. :)
jimmyt 02-07-2002, 07:12 AM I quote from my site:
'...The bandwidth (data transfer) used by your account is un-restricted. To back this claim up we are prepared to offer a full refund of the entire hosting* fee should we be unable to host your website due to high bandwidth usage. We do not allow the hosting of .exe, .cmd, .bat, .mov, .avi, .mp3, .wav, .rm, .ram, .rmx, .asf, .wmf, .wmp, and .wma files. We also don't allow the following if over 1mb in size: rar, .ace, .lzh, .zip, and .arj...'
.::DefCon::. 02-07-2002, 07:58 AM Yeah right...
But what if a customer uploads .zip files, renames them to .something (like *.wht), and publishes it on his website:
"all files should be renamed to .zip after downloading..."
That way -a bit less practical, but still- he could upload files with sizes of 1GB !!! :D
So, jimmyboy, what's your response to that?
Laterz...
jimmyt 02-07-2002, 08:08 AM DefCon
Anyone who would do a thing like that is obviously guilty of going against the spirit of my tos, not to mention taking the piss.
On another note, DefCon, I like your site.
How easy is it to configure postnuke?
Jim
;)
.::DefCon::. 02-07-2002, 09:20 AM Pretty easy, though some knowledge of PHP4 & MySQL is required to install it.
After installation it is very easy to configure. It comes with a professional administrator panel etc. You can change the entire look of the site with one click of your mouse!
But I don't think this thread is about PostNuke... if you have any questions about it, you can always contact me via ICQ (142385310), MSN or e-mail (thomas.k@genius-hosting.com -->also my msn passport).
Thanks for the quick reply! :)

That's no problem.....I'll just compress each package individually. The files are activex controls and visual basic projects so i can zip each one of them individually to make it less than 1MB in size.......This would be ok, wouldn't it?

His TOS says if the file is OVER 1gb in size, so if you have a zip that is exactly 1gig then according to his TOS it's allowed. So just use the span feature and make sure each zip files is exactly 1gig in size and see if he gives unlimited bandwidth.
NOT!
jimmyt 02-07-2002, 10:14 AM Hey Akashd
go for it (http://www.bayble.com/signup/phpmanager/order.php)
Put your money where your mouth is.

No.. you just have to make them EXACTLY 1MB in size.... his TOS says it's now allowed if OVER 1MB in size.

Unless I'm wrong, it appears you are hosting/have a dedicated server at burst.net (and I see you have cpanel). Burst has some low bandwidth allowances compared to a lot of places such as rackshack, BUT it's high quality bandwidth... and it's not cheap. Good throughput and uptime.
Now I could see someone trying to pull an unlimited transfer thing from a 300gig provider, but not from burst.net.
Also you have Raq's listed on your page. So are you running servers elsewhere?

Because i dont' exactly own the site (i just manage it) i can't just go for it. The owner does not want to risk the $25 or whatever the cost is (it's a not for profit website so money is tight). If anyone would like to sponsor, please speak up now.
BTW, jimmyt, I don't believe you will actually provide your advertised services, in which case, I will definitely ask your upstream provider to suspend your account until you have a valid service.
I'm not looking to shut you down, I just want you to provide a legit service where all the terms are given up front.

akashd:
ehm.... who are you to say he wont provide the service he is offering, are you GOD? I dont think so.
Why dont you put your money where your mouth is, not many hosts would say that on this forum, if he wasnt legit, he would have hid in a corner in his little room, like others do.
I can see that your a hosting company aswell, maybe we should report you to your upstream provider for being a wit, that dosent happen, or are you scared of a competitor?
jimmyt: good luck with your service, and ignore people like akashd, the just like getting there posts count up :D
Take care, and akashd bitch all you like :stickout

You know, you are right. Maybe I should shut up. If I've offended you jimmy ( or anyone else), I'm sorry. I'll just sit back now and let the world go on. Good luck, jimmy, with your business-may success come to you!

Thankyou :D
Take my post as advice, as the worst thing you can do on this forum is b***h about someone's service, when you provide the same nature of service yourself.
Life goes on, if you choose to live it.
ckpeter 02-07-2002, 09:38 PM jimmyt, don't argue with others. Just take my advice, take down the unlimited offer, and search the forum for "unlimited bandwidth" if you still feel you are right. It is simply not worth the risk of ruining your future reputation.
Since this thread has obviously gone off-topic, maybe a moderator should close it.

Agreed.
I think the thread should have been closed a long time ago.

There are some serious a******s on this board, I dont see jimmyt arguing with anyone
I thought I'd let you know, this board is not the be all and end all for businesses, there is a big world out there, If your business relys on sites like WHT for customers then maybe you shouldnt be running a business at all (not thats theres anything wrong with WHT).
Sitdown for a minute, and look at your business plan, I'm sure it dosent have WHT written all over it :D
Kind Regards,
Take my words wisely, dont start bitching and ranting, if you want you can PM all you like :stickout

There are too many chiefs and not enough indians on this site.
This entire website is just a big advertising fest....

cabalstudios,
Are you directing this to me? First off, I don't have a business and hence no business plan. Second, I am merely suggesting him to rethink his offer of unlimited transfer/bandwidth.
Looking at your post count, you have obviously been on WHT for a while. You know well how this forum doesn't like unlimited transfer. I am not ranting nor bitching. I find your comment most uncomprehensable.
Peter
Chicken 02-08-2002, 11:28 PM Ok, very little of this has anything to do with the thread.
