View Full Version : Pay Pal looking too good to be true.
Tom O'Connor 11-28-2004, 08:26 PM Hello folks
Paypal seem to have made a lot of changes since I was first shopping around for a merchant. I am a user of 2co and they charge a 5% rate.
PayPal seem to be now offering a merchant account, I want to recure bill in euro.
Is there any reason why Pay Pal couldnt handle all my credit card billing needs?
Any down sides to it?
2checkout checks for fraud
Edit: I'm not sure if paypal does, but I haven't ever received any fraud detections from them
Tom O'Connor 11-28-2004, 08:33 PM I am a silly billy, this should not be posted here.
I just read

Sorry guys. :(
gghosting 11-28-2004, 11:00 PM PayPal is the best, I would go with them.
Tom O'Connor 11-28-2004, 11:01 PM Thanks guys for the quick feedback. I think I may very well do that.
sid007 11-29-2004, 04:30 AM PayPal is not a real merchant account but it is adequate. A lot of advantages with PayPal
rondo 12-01-2004, 12:53 AM Why not use both?
Tom O'Connor 12-01-2004, 01:15 AM 2CO takes a bigger %.
trinitron 12-01-2004, 03:31 AM Yes I would also suggest to use both, ebay do the same.

Great service, like FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEzing your account one day for no reason:rolleyes:
Highly recommended!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
multitaskerVic 12-01-2004, 03:09 PM I happen to agree with amos on this one.
Tom if you plan to do serious business transactions, I think the best option is to look elsewhere. So many businesses' have had their accounts frozen with almost no recourse for obtaining their monies back except through legal avenues it isn't even funny. Thats what the class action suits are all about.
Paypal is fine for occasional person to person transactions but for true business processing I'd go with someone more trustworthy.
just my 2 cents :)
Tom O'Connor 12-01-2004, 03:17 PM Thanks for the advice folks.

Thanks Vic:) for backing me up.It is scary to see the new businesses prepared to take these risks.
Tom just take your time and re read these posts and the older threads,we have all been there and done that,so now you can all learn a lesson from our own mistakes.
Best of luck.
Tom O'Connor 12-02-2004, 06:21 AM Thanks amos462001.
rondo 12-03-2004, 08:22 PM You simply must offer paypal as one option. If you don't you will lose potential customers for the simple fact that nearly ALL new and existing webmasters have a paypal account.
I will only sign up for a host that accepts paypal!
dollar 12-04-2004, 07:33 AM Paypal is fine so long as you keep your account balance as low as you can stand. Never let $2,000 sit in there.
Host Ultra 12-06-2004, 08:42 PM I have never had problems with paypal.
If you respond to disputes you wont have a problem.
Keeping no money in your paypal account isnt a good idea either.
If you get a chargeback and paypal cant get the money from your account they will freeze your account.

Wait until you have all the money in your paypal account frozen for a no-good reason :) You'll start to think differently.
NOteasy 12-07-2004, 11:21 PM or wait until they "confirm" a purchase and 3months later pull cash from your account to pay a fraudulent chargeback with no recourse or option to prove shipment. Not only do they not check, they participate in, profit from and enable the robbery. Their own Visa card crows about 0 liability for unauthorized use!! sure, because they will pull the money from the merchant and hand it back to the thief and refuse to see the signature confirmation you paid for to protect yourself. If you want to know about paypal yes, see http://www.paypalsucks.com they will open your eyes, hopefully before paypal opens your wallet.
