AH-Tina 02-07-2002, 05:18 AM Making enough so that my husband quit his job and now works full-time for me - remodeling our house. :D --Tina 2Grumpy 02-07-2002, 05:41 AM your profit levels are ... low waaaay low I mean, I bust $1000 a month all to hell and I started 4 months ago. I don't see why people won't answer, it's not like it shows your vote (er it doesn't does it?) so why not own up to the big bux! Dylan 02-07-2002, 08:03 AM People in the web hosting business aren't in it for the bucks, their in it for the people :D Equilibrium 02-07-2002, 11:46 AM Dylan Their in it for the People Ha Ha Ha Ha :) Thats good for a laugh People are on every corner hungry if you like people that much go help them because I do ! ! ! Jedito 02-07-2002, 02:11 PM More than $7k starting in may 2001 :) But my country don't let me take the money out of the bank :bawling: :bawling: umair 02-07-2002, 02:30 PM Interesting poll results. Most of the people are either LOOSING or making more than $1000. What's cgi? jonny b 02-07-2002, 04:07 PM if its your main business and you arent making *at least* $ 1K / month then you really should look at why! Fair enough it takes a couple of months to get off your feet but realistically you shouldnt be losing any money at all..... HRBrendan 02-07-2002, 04:12 PM Really once youre more than a month or two old you should be pulling down 1k/month profit or its not worth your time to do it, as running a business does require a lot of time and energy. -Brendan allan 02-07-2002, 04:40 PM I also don't understand how anyone can survive on less than $1,000 a month? I think this poll is slightly skewed to small/part time host. I'd be more interested in seeing some of the higher end numbers. ReliableServers 02-07-2002, 08:58 PM Yeah this poll seems kinda of small in numbers area. As for turning a profit in 1 month or 2. I think that is debatable. If you roll out with your own servers etc this may not hold true. Even if your a reseller this may not, if you are learning and dont know how to market/advertise it may take a few months to make any money. But I do see how people could survive on less than 1000 a month, you must realize not everyone lives in large industrialized countries. 1000 in the usa is like 20,000 in other places. Imagine when you were a kid. $20 was a lot of money! allan 02-08-2002, 04:35 PM Originally posted by Skeptical And still not everyone is old enough to use up $1,000 fast. Imagine when you were a kid. $20 was a lot of money! $20 of my own private money -- not slated for the mortgage, or the cars, or the 401k, or the wife's trips to Kohls, and any of the other places where my money seems to go -- is still a lot of money to me :D. BarrySDCA 02-08-2002, 06:54 PM $1,000/month doesn't even cover our electric bill. Equilibrium 02-09-2002, 11:31 PM  baileysemt123 02-10-2002, 03:39 AM hmmmm... Now interesting, when I first read the poll question and voted, I assumed this to ask how much do you make per month in gross income? Now as I read the responses it would seem that many assumed the question was asking for net profits. There are many reasons why a person might not be netting >$1000 after "just a couple of months" not the least of which is business costs  which are covered in nauseating depth in a different thread :) I mean a person could end up racking up some $3-4k/mo. in costs easily, and that's a heck of a lot $5 virtual accounts to spin profit off of that. :) I suspect there are some small businesses out there that make their primary $$ at the Main Job but are doing hosting mostly as a moonlighting enterprise. For instance I have a tourist gift shop which is on the internet. After five years online and well over a Gig of traffic/mo. on that site, I now find myself tied to the server 24/7 via pager and am never >10 minutes from a dial-up connection at any time. I carry my laptop everywhere, roll up my sleeves and get to work. Now why should I not sell this service, commitment and tenacity as well? I'm doing it anyway... so how is it a significantly greater drain? It's not; I'm already doing the work, and I've already ironed out "helpers" to fix things I don't know how to do myself. At this point my clients pay for about 1/2 the monthly server cost. Still operating at a loss then, but the good news is it's really helpful to have all these write-offs at tax time. The joy is largely in the job itself, I love screwing around on the computer, even if I do have a purpose. :) With the implementation of a marketing program this spring my goal is to have the hosting biz cover all its business expenses plus pay for my rent every month. There is no reason why I should not be able to turn this kind of profit with an aggressive campaign and good customer service. Then I don't have to work so many long hours with the tourists in the shop. :) Sounds like heaven!!! :D Bailey Equilibrium 02-10-2002, 04:40 PM This is getting * * HOT * * |
